Quote #165, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #165....

"The person who knows everything has a lot to learn."
-Anonymous-

Well this doesn't make any sense? Why would the person who knows it all need to keep learning, let alone much more?

Maybe there isn't such a thing?.. a "know it all". Interesting, as, once in a while, you meet someone who thinks they have the answers to everything. Pretty obnoxious, huh?

This quote is actually opposite of another very saavy quote I heard that is oxymoronish, yet it makes sense. "The more I learn and discover, the more I find out just how much I don t know"

Whew, confused? I am. Heck...what the heck do I know?

Quote #164, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #164....

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
-Classic quote, famous for something-

Saw this quote this past week and thought we'd have a little FUN at the Think Tank. Isn't that what this game of life is all about, anyway? After all, this isn't your average, boring, plain old quote blog.

So, what is the significance of this little 35 word, single sentence quote? As a footnote: English majors and grammar teachers may have a slight advantage.

To be fair, anyone KNOWING the answer.. email me at creator@smile-therapy.com so we don't give away the answer in the comments.

Quote #163, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #163....

"Oh, you should never, never doubt...what nobody is sure about."
-Willy Wonka-

That witty, wonderfully charming, sometimes oxymoronish, yet sarcastic Chocolate Factory owner. One of my all time favorite movies. Expect more quotes from WW.

My only comment on Wonka's quote is.... to be sure you think you know what he might be definitely saying. Errr what?

Quote #162, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #162....

"Each day is a new canvas to paint upon. Make sure your picture is full of life and happiness, and at the end of the day, you don't look at it and wish you painted something different."
-Author Unknown-

Too bad we don't know the author, as this is a masterpiece. So, what I read from this is.... I am in control of how my picture( my day) is forcasted. I am in control of how today's portrait will be painted(how the day plays out). Sure there will be interruptions, complications, and unexpected twists and turns. That's life, and it's dealt with as it comes up.

Even more exciting; when tomorrow comes, I get to tear the sheet off in front of me, and re-do my drawing for the upcoming day. When looked at this way.. we have more control than we ever imagined. This is where ATTITUDE plays a BIG, BIG role. Hmm.. what will I paint tomorrow? What will YOU paint tomorrow? Get those writing utencils out and ready!

Quote #161, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #161....

"You can't do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth"
-Shira Tehrani-

This is one of the most frustrating ,yet coolest things about life.... no one knows when their number is called to enter the pearly gates 'upstairs'. However, as Tehrani suggests, all of us can control what we do, and how we act and live, when we are here.

For those of you who know me..my living mantra is overly simplistic....
Work hard, have fun, help others, and make people SMILE. Hopefully the width and depth of my life will be significant, at least for others who come in contact with me.

How about your width and depth?

Quote #160, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #160....

"The love of one's country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?"
-Pablo Casals-

England Dan and John Ford Coley once sung.. 'Light up the world, shine on me, love is the answer'. In Tuesday's with Morrie , the ever wisdomatic Morrie Schwarz says "if we do not have love then we don't have anything at all. Love each other or perish."

Patriotism is one of the best things you can have.. LOVE FOR YOUR COUNTRY. Added to that, loving others, takes it up another notch. Can we do both? Of course we can.

Here goes blog quote #159....

"If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it."
-90 year old Regina Britt-

Blunt.
To the point.
Not much wiggle room here.
I like the wisdom from the nearing centurian. I'd only add that this would apply to personal, business, and all types of relationships.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #158....

"To help your children turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money."
-H. Jackson Brown-

We've all seen it. Most likely we've all been guilty of it once, or twice, or ten times.

Shunning our kids of our time. Throwing a present at them, perhaps a video, or some food or fill in the blank.. all in lieu of giving them what they want most. Time with you.

The latest is all the computer gadgets soaking up the kids time. Between the Facebooks of the world, cell phones, I- phones, blackberries, texting, kids are interacting less with humans(and parents) and turning more to the machines.

Lousie Hart said "The best thing to spend on your children is your time." Give them your time , your attention, your ideas, your LISTENING ear. The communication with your kid will pay off better than any investment Warren Buffet ever made.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #157....

We can tell our values by looking at our checkbook stubs."
-Gloria Steinem-

That is interesting. Get the thinking cap out.

How do you read this?

Heres my initial thoughts. Who am I paying ? What kinds of places are my checks going to? Do I give to charity. Are they going to mostly my mastercard bills and other trivial, self gratifying, superficial stuff? Am I just paying the phone, electric, and mortgage bills, or am I LIVING LIFE?

What a great conversation piece.... What are YOU thinking when reading this quote?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #156....

"Strong and bitter words indicate a weak cause."
- Victor Hugo-

Did you ever notice the loudest, boisterous, most belligerent people usually are wrong? It's almost as if they know it, and they are just trying to "bully their way" through the discussion/ argument.

Be on the lookout for these types of people. The more angry, louder, and out of control they are, good chance there is nothing of substance behind their fury.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #155....

"Someone has tabulated that we have 35 million laws on the books to enforce the Ten Commandments."
- Bert Masterson-

Remember what Mom said.. KISS. Keep It Simple Silly. Brief, to the point.

Why do we make things over complicated? We should be able to explain things to others with brievity, conciseness, and with clarity.

There is a story of an old track coach who gave very clear, pithy advice to his runners. Just before the race began, he'd tell his runner "Stay to the left and get back here as quick as you can".

It's the job of a good communicator to make things understandable. The simpler the better.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #154....

"Books can't make you a good fisherman, but they CAN make you a better one."
- Fisherman's Saying-

As an avid reader, this quote lit me right up. The cool thing about this quote is you can substitute almost anything for the word fisherman. Change it to writer, salesperson, traveler, tennis player, gardener, and on and on.

Books teach. You can't do it all by just reading. You have to APPLY what you learn through repetition, practice and experience. That's how improvement in anything takes place.

The great thing about life is that there have been many people to go before us and try things. And there are many experts willing to share their knowledge of how to do "whatever". Why re-create the wheel? If nothing else, theres probably a 'Whatever for Dummies' available somewhere?

Quotes #150-153, My Thoughts and Your Thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #150-53....

"Polished brass will pass upon more people than rough gold."
- Chesterfield-
"Things are seldom what they seem; skim milk masquerades as cream."
-W.S. Gilbert-
"All that glisters is not gold."
-Cervantes, in Don Quixote-
"Photography deals exquisitely with apprearances, but nothing is what it appears to be."
-Duane Michaels-

Did you ever hear the story of the PR guy who dies and gets to the pearly gates.? A good guy, but his whole life, all his stories pitched a win -win situation. In honor of his skills, St Peter gave him a choice of Heaven or Hell.

So they take a ride down the elevator to Hell and are greeted at the elevator door by Satan himself, seeming to be a great guy. Satan offers the man a nice cuban cigar and tells the new guest to have a ball. People are drinking, laughing, partying, everyone dressed to the hilt, looking great, having the time of their lives. Even the concierge comes up and says ANYTHING is yours while you are here, complements of the host. At the end of the day.. time to go, although no one wanted to, with the fun they had. St Pete says,"just wait 'til you see Heaven".

Off they go up the elevator to visit Heaven. The doors open and its everything as beautiful and serene as one would imagine. Beautiful music, puffy white clouds, everyone peacefully walking by,smiling, greeting, as nice as could be. Probably the most relaxed and restful and comforting day... EVER.

Decision time comes and as nice as Heaven was, the PR guy couldnt shake the FUN that waited below.. so he chooses Hell. Off they go, in anticipation of more excitement. The elevator stops and opens to a dirty, wasteland of trash, fires on the streets, moans, groans, and complete misery. The PR guy finds the devil and demands to know what the HELL is going on( no pun intended). The devil wryly smiles and says.. Yesterday you were a prospect; today you are a client".

Be careful out there. As Duane Michael's quote says.. nothing is what it appears to be.. at least in front of the camera.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #149....

"When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization."
- Daniel Webster-

Hats off to Mr Webster for even thinking up this quote. It's dead on the money, yet it is something that I personally, would never have thought of.

I have always been a big fan of the farmer.
Hard working people.
Down to earth people (literally and figuratively).
Extremely HUMBLE folk.
Doing an extremely important job, that without, our civilization would cease to exist.

My cap is tipped and my appreciation is hereby given to all farmers. Thank you for the fantastic job you all do!

Quote #148, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #148....

"Fish come and go, but it's the MEMORY of afternoons on the stream that endure."
- E. Donnall Thomas-

A friend of mine named Gerry once taught me one of the best lessons ever. He said, " Tim, no matter what you do, when doing something, always try to create a memory". I thought, WOW.. no one else ever told me that. The more I thought about it, it really made sense.

Throwing a party?.. do something different so people will remember it. Trying to meet a new business client? Follow up in a unique way so you stand out like you had orange hair. Giving a speech?.. do something so that people will tell others.. 'you'll never guess what this speaker said today'. Create a MEMORY.

I think Thomas is saying similar stuff in his quote. You may or may not catch a fish or two, but you'll remember the good times had fishing with friends or family, out on the stream. For me, as an avid golfer, as I age, I'm appreciating the memories of each and every round I get to cherish with friends and family. Especially the ones with my DAD.

Good times come and go as the days move on, but the MEMORIES are ours forever, to share and pass on.

Quote #147, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #147....

"The only certain thing about the future is that it will surprise even those who have seen furthest into it."
- E. J. Hobsbawn, historian-

Where do I start here? Wow, plenty to consider on this one. Well they say history repeats itself. It does; sometimes. Then people say.... the only things certain in life are death and taxes... in other words, who knows what's coming around the corner..

Seems to me there is a bit of both here in play. History is an indicator of what HAS happened and what COULD occur again. It's kind of like past experiences... see what has happened before and learn from it.

Then its also worth noting whenever people say I' ve seen it all... guess what.. they haven't. I personally have noticed that whenever you think you have life figured out, B-A-M, you get hit with a curve ball better than No- Hitter kingpin, Nolan Ryan

Personally, I like that we don't know what the future beholds. Wouldn't it be really BORING if we knew how everything was going to play out. The unknown is what keeps things interesting.. doesn't it?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #146....

"Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week."
-Spanish Proverb-

Is this a trick quote? Anyone ever see the witty bar sign .... FREE BEER TOMORROW? It's a classic because, every day you come in, its free..... tomorrow; so you never really get the free sudsy beverage.

Are there any procrastinators out there? I interpreted this quote as meaning it's such a busy 'day' because everyone is always saying... "I'll do it tomorrow". "Lets meet 'tomorow". "Why not put it off til tomorrow".

Well as they say.. tomorrow may never come for some of us, or, tomorrow's plate may fill up with unexpected tasks and chores. So.. heres a suggestion.. let's make TODAY the busiest day of the week. Get to it! Today!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #145....

"A good father gives certain gifts that can't be opened for many years."
-John Wooden-

Some gifts are not bought in a store. Some cannot be dressed in wrapping paper. Some can't be physically touched. And some are woth more than a treasure chest of jewels.

These "gifts" may come in the form of "experience". They may be termed "life lessons". Perhaps even called "words of wisdom"? When Wooden made this statement, he was referring to his dad Joshua Wooden when he shared with John the GIFT of........ his philosophy of success.

Per John, "Dad would say, Johnny, remember this, and remember it well: Never try to be better than somebody else, but never cease trying to be the best you can be. You have control over that. Not the other.

Old man Wooden taught John to judge his success on the quality of his effort rather than how he compared to others, whether it be in the classroom, basketball, or life. Classic Information. Thanks to both the Wooden's, for sharing this priceless information.

Here goes blog quote #144....

"She looks as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth."
-Swift, Polite Conversation-

I got a good chuckle out of this one. Never heard of a "cold look" put in these terms.

Quick question.... When dealing with a customer, a sales clerk, someone your calling on in business, a receptionist, the grocery stork check out person, or ANYONE.. would you rather be dealing with a warm, friendly, smiling person? Or, someone with a cold, sour, miserable attitude?

Good..now that we know the answer.. check out what your face is wearing today.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #143....

"Before you can score, you must first have a goal."
-Greek Proverb-

At first I found this to be basic and 'duhhh, everyone knows that'. However the more I thought about it, the better this proverb became.

Your object when you play golf is to put the ball in the hole, with as little strokes as possible. Playing hoops.. well your goal is to put the ball in the basket. Football.. to score and to not let the other team score. Hockey.. your goal is to make the puck GO IN the GOAL. Soccer, kick it in the GOAL.. Perhaps maybe that's why the cage that your trying to insert the object in is called the GOAL?

Ok, other parts of life.. when we drive, our goal is to get where we are going. When we are hungry, our goal is to put food in our bellies. When we go to high school/ college, our goal is to graduate.

Sooooo, in the big picture of life.. do you have GOALS and PLANS and DREAMS? If not, shouldn't you be working on developing them.. so you can ACHIEVE whatever it is that you desire? It's surprising how many people forget to have a basic GOAL GAMEPLAN for life. HMMM.

Here goes blog quote #142....

"I can't imagine a person becoming a success who doesn't give this game of life everything he's got."
-Walter Cronkite-

If you are giving life your all, each and every day, I give KUDO'S to you. We've all seen the people who are. They just seem ON FIRE. Totally JAZZED up on life. We all should be, as, once planted in the ground 6 feet under, we are there a long time.

For those that aren't giving life everything they have to give, I have a teensy- weensy, tiny little, 2 word question for you that has a VERY VERY BIG Meaning to it.

W -H -Y N- O- T ???

Something to chew on, ponder and examine. It's certainly worth your time to ask yourself that question.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #141....

"Keep thy eyes wide open before marriage, and half shut afterwards."
-Ben Franklin-

Very clever as well as a fascinating thought from the great inventor. This one open to many interpretations. Here's my take:

Before signing on the dotted line of marriage... DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Find out as much as you can, and be as thorough as you can about 'researching' your partner. Place the two of you in as many different situations as you can. How do they react under pressure? How are they around your friends? Your parents/ family? What about social settings? Work setttings? Traveling together with a group of others, and then just as a couple? In other words, keep the eyes wide open and KNOW what you are getting. Many hastily rush into marriage and are surprised with their partners actions; when they really never properly examined them to begin with.

Part two... keep your eyes half shut after marriage. I think this is learning to overlook the small nuances. Pick your battles. Ignore the itsy-bitsy, non important stuff. Focus on and appreciate the many good things your spouse has to offer. Am I way off here interpreting Franklin's thoughts?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #140....

"A free press can be good or bad, but most certainly, without freedom, a press will never be anything, but bad."
-Albert Camus-

AAh F-R-E-E-D-O-M. What a great thing to be thankful for. What a great place we live in, in these United States of America. The mountains, lakes, trees, oceans. The warm, cool, hot and cold climates. What a selection of places and things to CHOOSE from. And the freedom to move about and basically build any kind of lifestyle you want to build for yourself, if your willing to put the time and effort in. FREEDOM and CHOOSE; two words that go together like peanut butter and jelly.

This Freedom allows me personally to pursue my dream of someday, bringing a Daily Dose of Optimism to over 20,000 people. From there.... 'to infinity and beyond' as Buzz Lightyear says.

So... freedom is something never to take for granted. Just imagine yourself without it.....eesshh.. pretty icky feeling huh?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #139....

"Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege than the raising of the next generation."
-Anonymous-

This is powerfully heavy. What a huge, huge responsibility it is to raise a child into the world today.

But is there a higher privilege than leaving your mark, and hopefully in the form of a a better, more improved, more educated being than yourself? You have about 18 years, give or take a few, to do the absolute best you can. Your task.... to pass on the proper lessons and messages in order for your offspring to make life and it's surroundings even better than you did.

It reminds me of a Fathers day ad I once saw..... Anyone can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a DAD.
Being a parent. Massive responsibility, but what a REWARDING privilege. Anyone agree?

Quote #138, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #138....

"I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma."
-Eartha Kitt-

Wait, I thought learning was done once high school was over.. err college... umm grad school? Wow, does school ever end? Really, it doesn't.. for anyone who really wants to LIVE LIFE.

Actually LIFE is a continual classroom. One famous comment is that you'll be the same person 5 years from today with the exception of the people you meet and the books you read. Another says that.... here's a test to see if your mission on earth is complete.. if your still alive, it's not.

In fact, for myself, I've found that the more I know, the more I realize what I don't know. Ironic huh? It's a pretty big world out there and plenty to learn. OK, back to the class of LIFE for me....

Quote #137, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #137....

"You are not stuck where you are, unless you decide to be."
-Wayne Dyer-

Ever listen to someone say that they can't do something or something isn't working out for them, or as the quote says, they are 'stuck' in some position. Dyer is basically saying they have a CHOICE. They are choosing to be stuck. They are choosing that something isn't working out.

Sounds a bit harsh, so lets soften it up a bit. Most likely, the person hasn't been DETERMINED enough to get 'unstuck', to do something, to better their position. Much of this is in the mind and when they DECIDE to make something happen, things will change, for the positive. With the exception of some unusual circumstances, I agree with Dyer on his quote here. How about you?

Quote #136, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #136....

"I have always felt that the moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the 24 hours. No matter how weary or dreary you may feel, you posess the certainty that.. absolutely anything may happen. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not one jot. The possibility is always there.

-Monica Baldwin-

As I sit here pondering this at 8 am... what a cool thought.

Perhaps you land that huge contract you've been working on?
You may think of an idea that solves a 2 year old problem?
An old friend may call, whom you haven't heard from in 26 years?

Is there a better way to start the day knowing that ANYTHING may happen today? The possibilities are endless!
