Quote #243, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #243...

"You'll never leave where you are, until you decide where you'd rather be."
-Author undisclosed-

Change. Did you ever notice it's one thing that most of us humans shy away from? Perhaps it's the unknown? Maybe the uncomfortableness? Why leave the home nest or get out of the comfort zone that we are familiar with?

I find this statement to be dead on. Until you know where you want to go, there is no sense in leaving. Sadly, I see many people that are in dead end jobs, or just places of employment that they want to leave but haven't. Maybe they need to DECIDE where they want to go, and then... get moving??
Just a thought.

Quote #242, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #242...

"When opportunity knocks at the door, most people are out in the back yard looking for 4 leaf clovers."
-Ben Franklin-

Isn't it funny how so many opportunities are passed by? Some say that opportunities are just disguised as problems. Usually the bigger the problem the larger the potential opportunity.

Another theory out there is one man's junk is another man's treasure. Show me a guy having a problem and on the other side of the coin, somewhere in that 'problem' lies a chance for something great. My father made his living in real estate, buying other peoples 'problems' at severely discounted prices. He did some creative thinking, some hard work, some rehabbing and poof.. problem converted to opportunity.

What problems and opportunities are you missing out on? Keep those eyes and ears on the lookout. A wise man once said.."you find..... what you are looking for."

Quote #241, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #241...
"I've been waiting so long, I think I've recovered."
-Overheard in a doctor's office-

This is more true than you may think. They say time heals most stuff including wounds and a majority of other illnesses.

Anyone know any hypochondriacs? My sister for one takes her kids to the doctor, every time they burb or pass gas. Mother nature is a pretty good physician herself, if you do the basics of rest, water, some good food, and a little chicken soup. Some TLC from Mom never hurts either.

Quote #240, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #240...

"If your lips would keep from slips, five things observe with care: To whom you speak,of whom you speak, and how and when and where."
-Anonymous-

Oh my, oh my, what good advice to try.

When speaking ABOUT someone, you should be able to substitute "TO" for "ABOUT" and still repeat the same commentary.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #239...

"If I finish second in the country at Notre Dame, everybody calls me an idiot. If a guy finishes last in medical school, they call him a doctor."
-Lou Holtz-

Two things come to mind after reading this quote. First, do we place way to much emphasis on winning sports as a society? Second, where are our priorities?

One of the reasons I idol and respect Coach John Wooden is that he does not stress the final score, but to him if you did your best and more importantly, if you gave it your all that day..THAT is winning. Usually, if the fundamentals have been learned properly and practiced long and hard, those, coupled with your 100% effort; the score will takes care of itself. Don't get me wrong here.Wooden likes to win like anyone else, but his definition of winning differs quite a bit from most others. I'm with Wooden.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #238...

"There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative."
-W.Clement Stone-

Stone knew a thing or two about attitude. He founded the Combined Life Insurance company, one of the biggest insurers in the world. He also founded SUCCESS magazine.

Apparently he thinks attitude makes a H U G E difference. I agree. How about you?

Here goes blog quote #237...

"When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that person is crazy."
-Dave Barry-

Quote #236, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #236...

"Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for."
-Socrates-

Did you ever notice that many ideas that we come up with are not "new". Somewhere, someone has probably thought of or tried or suggested the same thing that you are thinking or doing. Many feet have walked on this path before us over the years.

What I took Socrates to be saying is that many people before our time have done things and written about them. There is HUGE knowledge and wisdom in libraries, on computers, in books and encyclopedias and wikipedias. Example: Think and Grow Rich, that I happen to be re -reading at the present time. Written in 1937. A fascinating story how one man, Napolean Hill took TWENTY YEARS(20) of his life to study 100 or so of the most successful men in his era and what they did to become successful. You think there is anything to be learned in that book? How about The Joy of Cooking written in 1936; best selling cookbook ever. I bet the recipes are still pretty valid, and tasty. War and Peace written in 1869 has a nugget or 2 of wisdom. And our quotesman, Socrates, goes back "only" to 400 BC. He has written a thing or two worth your reading time.

Moral of the story.. you don't have to reinvent the wheel.. do some reading of our past forefathers.. you' ll learn plenty, and accomplish great things. To use a stale line... you don't have to be a rocket scientist. Just read about them and apply what they already found out for us!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #235...

"Have confidence that if you have done a little thing well, you can do a bigger thing well too."
-David Storey-

Taking baby steps. That's what baby's have to do when they want to walk. Actually the process goes crawl, walk(baby steps first), run.

In case you haven't noticed, nothing huge happens instantly. It's like the old line.. 'there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs'. It may appear that a success story happened over night, but trust me.. behind the scenes were a ton of hard work, perspiration, previous failures, trial and error and so on. Which brings us full circle. It all starts with the baby steps.

Do the small things first, do them well, and this will give you confidence to tackle the bigger things. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #234...

"When a man has not a good reason for doing a thing, he has a good reason for letting it alone."
-Sir Walter Scott-

When I read this, the first thing that came to my mind was the word FORCE. Ever try to force something, although no good reasons for moving ahead are there? I have. Here's what I've found...The results, about 100% of the time, are not good when forcing things.

The very fact that you are trying to come up with a reason to do something(also called "justifying")should tell you to NOT do it. Reasons for going ahead should either be present and be sound, or the action should be passed on.

-Victor Hugo-

When the timing is right and all the stars line up in alignment, some amazing things happen with incredible force. The question to ask is.. Do you have any ideas you' ve been harnessing, that perhaps their time has come?

Since it's a fact that the sand continues to sift through our hourglasses of life, I say... Bring Them On !!

Here goes blog quote #232...

"Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see."
-Neil Postman-

As parents , we set examples, we give guidance, we share tools and wisdom. It will be interesting to see how our offspring turns out and what they do with themselves, their life, their world.

The results? If nothing else, they are sure to determine the grade us parents get for our teaching efforts. Something to ponder.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #231...

"Unless your a doctor, ain't nothing that important they can't wait to call you about later. How many 19 yr old kids got something really important happening? We've had beepers go off in the middle of meetings right before the game."
-Charles Barkley, in 1997-

UUGGH. Another pet peeve of mine. Back a few years it was beepers and pagers. Today its cell phones. When first reading this, did anyone think of an obnoxious cell phone that can't ever be turned off due to the risk of missing an "important call"? I'm sorry, but unless your wife is about to give birth, or a major deal is about to go down, most cell phones can be shut off and given a breather.

If someone really needs to get you, they'll track you down. And most of the time, it's about one-tenth of an emergency. Cell phones have their place and importance in life. And so does turning them off.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #230...

"I've always felt the most important word in the English language is NO. You can always change no to yes, and that makes everybody feel good, but it's hard to change a yes to a no. I tell the kids, when in doubt about anything, say no."
-Bobby Knight-

Nobody likes an Indian giver(cliche for giving and taking back after). Personally it's one of my pet peeves of the world when people say yes to doing something, and then don't follow through.

This may be for several reasons and is a great conversation piece. Was the person to chicken to say no to their face? Did their word mean nothing when they said yes? Was there a true comittment when they agreed? Problems arise when people say yes, and bag out. Plans are made, food is ordered, things get counted on when people say they'll be there, or do something.

No is a tough word, but in the end, a firm no is much better than a whimpy yes, that turns into a no. To quote Jimmy Buffet, "Say what you mean, mean what you say.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #228...

"Remember, you only have to succeed the last time."
-Brian Tracy-

This goes along quite nicely with the thought of keep trying until you succeed. The only time you fail is when you get knocked down and you refuse to get up. Keep getting up and it's not failure.

A gentleman you hay have heard of, named Tommy Edison, knew a thing or two about persevering and things that didn't work one way or another. When asked about the invention of the light bulb, and why he didn't give up.. he said, I didnt fail 10,000 times. I found 10,000 ways that just didn't work. Finally I found a way that DID WORK. Think on that the next time you flip your lightswitch on at home. As Tracy said, you only need to succeed that last time!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #227...

"If you truly REALIZED just how POWERFUL your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought."
-Peace Pilgrim-

Speaking of powerful----W O W .

With no exaggeration, I have probably read more than 34 hundred(3400) quotes in my life. I cannot remember one with as strong and meaningful message as this one.

I've always been a huge proponent of positive thoughts, thinking better, what you think you become, etc etc. This message drives home just how detrimental the repercussions of thinking negative can have. In other words,if you think bad, chances are, bad things will appear/happen. You remember the old adage 'be careful what you wish for'? In this case, substitute think for wish. Be careful what you think.

As a final note.. if you can CHOOSE to think good or bad.. why the heck would anyone that isn't being held at gun point, choose to think bad? I suggest re-reading the above quote again, and again. Think on it for the next 24 -48 hours.. the light bulb will go off soon, if it hasn't already.

Here goes blog quote #226...

"You can't find buried treasures without getting your hands dirty."
-unknown-

Its kind of like the toy in the Cracker Jack box or the game inside the box of Cocoa Puffs.. you have to do some scratching and clawing. The goodies are deep down, buried under the surface. If all the quality stuff were up top where it was easy to get at, everyone would have their paws grabbing, and there wouldn't be any.

As they say, the more sweat and the greater the effort, the better the reward. Get digging!

Here goes blog quote #225...

"Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll make you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So.. if you give her crap, you will receive more s&^% than any one human being can handle."
-Anon E. Mouse-

I love humor that throws a curveball, and catches you off guard at the end. Also, this is a nice quote, as it shows the different ranges and gears a woman has. I'll choose to spotlight how good and sweet a woman can be.

Dr Spock 's got this one on the money. You may ask.. "how can this be?" It has all the makings of a contridictory statement.

All I can add is this; from my short 44 years on this earth:
a.) I found this statement to be somehow correct. The old, 'givers gain' theory.
b.) Try it and see for yourself. Share MORE.. You'll have more.Somehow it happens.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #223...

"I'm a 9 to 5 guy. I carry my lunch in a lunchpail, and it's a tin lunchpail, and when work is over, I go back home."
-Walter Payton, NFL great-

The thing that makes this quote so amazing is that Payton was one of the all time best running backs to ever play the professional game of football. Nicknamed "sweetness" for his grace, athletic ability and smoothness on the field, the man was something to watch. If you've never seen him or heard of him, try to find a video of him on google or perhaps a movie/ DVD. You'll be glad you did.

Payton teaches us a lesson here that is often forgotten amongst today's movie stars and athletes. A lesson in complete humility. To have this man's talent and to be that humble, is it inself, SWEET.

It's simply the best thing you will ever do for yourself. You don't earn the title man's best friend, for nothing. It's 10,000% true.
