What is...the most Desired Gift?

Blog quote #1004...
"The most desired gift of love is not diamonds or roses or chocolate. It is focused attention." -unknown
Wow, those are pretty strong competitors (diamonds, roses, and chocolate). However, it's true that what people really want, deep down, above all else-- is attention and affection. They are simply basic human needs;granted the other 3 things are nice 'wants.'
People just want to be loved, and cared for, and appreciated. Let's all work toward more of that.

on Patience...

Blog quote #1003...
"I'll just try to get one home run at a time." -Hank Aaron, home run holder for a long time
Good advice for anything in life--one at a time. Too often we try to create things too fast, or catch up/make up deficits too quick, or want instant gratification.
Exercise patience. Take care of business, in due time. Concentrate on the single task at hand. create a little momentum and watch how things start to fall into place.
As an example- If you've ever watched  a basketball game and one team is down by 20 points,  they can only make up the deficit 2 or 3 points, per trip down the floor. It all starts one at a time. Momentum is an amazing thing. However  the best way to build momentum--is one by one, as Hammerin' Hank advised above. Onward...

The COST...of Everything and Nothing.

Blog quote #1002...
"Everything you want in life has a price connected to it. There's a price to pay if you want to make things better, a price to pay just for leaving things as they are. A price-- for everything.." -Harry Browne
So  yes there is a cost to working extremely hard and really going after what you want. Often what people miss though, is the other side of the coin- the cost, of doing absolutely nothing...
Hmm...Something to think about this weekend.

Are Leaders Readers? (is this a trick question?)

Blog quote #1001...
"Readers are leaders and leaders are readers. We need more quality leaders, so let's all keep reading." -Tony Calascibetta
No truer words were ever spoken on BOTH of Mr. Calascibetta's sentences. Reading is essential to learning, growth, self-development, self-improvement, achievement, and ultimately, good leadership skills.
And for certain, the world can ALWAYS use more superb leaders. So grab a book all, and see what we can learn today...that's new to us.

What's 'on' your Face?

Blog quote #1000...
"Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important." -Janet Lane
SMILE!
Would you rather look at a frown, or a beaming smile?
Would you rather listen to an optimist, or a pessimist?
Hang around a complainer, or an encourager?
Someone full of vibrancy or a tired, worn out, lack of energy soul?
A person who lifts up the world, or a 'Debbie downer'( wah-wah)?
The choice is easy isn't it?  We can join in on the fun. As Gandhi once said  "BE the change we want to see in the world." Bring on the positive, and in the meantime, show some teeth!

Are you Focused?

Blog quote #999...
"My presence of mind is frequently absent." -Rain Bojangles, artist
Closing in on 1000 quotes, thought we'd share a funny quote of trickery and irony. Almost Yogi Berra-ish, this statement is a good reminder to try to get back on a good path of focus and paying attention
Obviously, not an easy thing for us humans to do--with all the multitasking and speed of life blurring by us. Attention!

On Talents, and Equal Opportunities...

Blog quote #998...
"All of us do not have equal talents, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talents." -John F Kennedy
A very fair and equitable comment made by our former president. Let's give everyone a chance to work hard and see what talents eventually materialize. The results...may be surprising.
To infinity, and beyond!

Succeeding, in life...

Blog quote #997...
"I can't imagine a person becoming a success, who doesn't give this game of life everything he's got." -Walter Cronkite
One of the best and most famous journalists of the 20th century, Cronkite anchored the CBS evening news for 19 years. And he certainly lived what he preached, by giving it his all.
To conclude with his famous sign -off  "And that's the way it is, this Sunday August 21,2016. Good night!"

Another reason WHY we all should have a Great Attitude.

Blog quote #996...
"Great effort springs naturally from great attitude." -Pat Riley
No surprise here. Reason #210, to work as hard as you can at having a positive attitude and mindset. It will help with many things in life-- including your passions and efforts!

Best way to handle Problems...

Blog quote #995...
"Expect problems, and eat them for breakfast."-Alfred Montapert-
Our guess here is this has a twofold meaning. First, just expect that the day will not go perfectly smooth. Not being negative, just realistic. Stuff happens, it's life. The days that go absolutely perfect are few and far between and are total bonuses from life. When they come, just give gratitude.
Second, deal with your worst problems as soon as they crop up- preferably 'for breakfast.' If you have something that might be a stresser or weighing on the brain, move it to the top of the to do list, and wipe it off first, so you can maximize productivity for the day. God stuff Alfred!

Best way to educate children..?

Blog quote #994...
"All to often we are giving young people cut flowers, when we should be teaching them to grow their own plants."-John W. Gardner-
What's that saying--Give a man a fish, feed him that day; teach a man to fish, feed him for life?  Perhaps the hovering helicopter parents of today are trying to do too much for the kids? All with  good intentions of course, but the facts are we don't learn well when people do things for us.
The best education comes via mistakes, rejection, tough hard work, experience and good old fashioned sweat. The old cliche 'school of hard knocks' is  spot on with its terminology.
So...the suggestion here is let the kids become their own style horticulturist, rather than a receiver of a nice bouquet of roses. We love it, Mr Gardner!

The real, more important Question, is...

Blog quote #993...
"The question should be, is it worth trying to do, not, can it be done."-Allard Lowenstein-
Very thought provoking, enlightening and a fair question to ask. Nice, outside the box 'questioning' by Mr Lowenstein.

Interesting OUTLOOK...

Blog quote #992...
"Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains."-Nuke LaLoosh, in movie  Bull Durham-
We took this quote as follows:
There are only 3 outcomes-- sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it goes the other way, and occasionally you don't even 'play' that day.
It is what it is. What will be will be. Look forward to the next event. Onward...

Strategy to HIRE people...

Blog quote #991...
"You can employ men and hire hands to work for you,but you will have to win their hearts to have them work with you."-William J.H. Becker-
What a superb leadership lesson here. For and with are two completely separate things.
And one will get much more effective work accomplished than the other. We'll let the reader figure out the better strategy.

On Learning, from the past...

Blog quote #990...
"Don't be afraid of history. Take all of it you can get."-Charles Eames, designer-
This would be a call for learning about who came before us and what they did- both successes and mistakes. And while history  sometimes repeats, there is no guarantee of that.
At the very minimum, it's good to know what others were thinking or what they attempted to do. And some parts of life are pretty constant over time, no matter who you are, and where you live.
So...keep learning. And when in  doubt--take a peek and see if there is anything we can learn from the past. There is a reason they hand out past performances at the horse tracks. Helpful, but certainly don't give the whole story, nor do they predict the future. Onward....

How little actions, turn into BIG results

Blog quote #989...
"Little strokes fell great oaks."-British proverb-
Little by little, big things get done.  In this case, 2154 strikes of an ax may take down a tree.  817 shovels may clear a big deck of snow. A leaky faucet  might take 25000 drops to cause a flooding.  Or, it might take a professional swimmer 16,000 hours in a pool, coupled with a lesson a week for 5 years, and all the sudden they are diving into the Olympic pool at Rio.
Things take time. But consistent activity will eventually produce results. Stay with it, and   do it with persistence and perseverance.

Perfection a fantasy, but THIS isn't...

Blog quote #988...
"Give up the quest for perfection and shoot for five good minutes in a row."-Cathy Guisewite-
What an excellent tip. The only thing we'd add to it at the end of the quote is this: Then repeat, as many times as you like.
Perfection is not a reality. But working your hardest and giving it your Sunday best, in quick short intervals, is certainly doable. And likely extremely effective, we may add.

A comment, on Hard Work

Blog quote #987...
"Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard."-Tim Notke-
Isn't that funny how that works? A nice use of the sometimes tricky English grammar here, by Mr. Notke.
Interestingly, with the Olympics going on right now, you won't see any of this displayed. Each and every one of these athletes  truly sacrificed a ton, to get to the games. It's truly remarkable to hear all the individual stories, and how they made their way to Rio.
Hats off to the hard workers of the world, wherever they may be!

Why we should be more...WILLING

Blog quote #985...
"Nothing is easy to the unwilling."-Thomas Fuller-
Another example of how important the choice of ATTITUDE is. Many decide to make things more difficult than they need to.
Heck if I know why they do, but  it happens every day, and certainly much more than it should. Another head scratcher, for sure!

Is true QUALITY... rare?

Blog quote #984...
"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected."-Steve Jobs-
As the famous announcer Dick Enberg used to say  "Oh my."  Is that ever an understatement! There seems to be a plethora of mediocrity( or worse) out there in the world.
Sadly, excellence, when seen, noticed, or experienced-- truly sticks out like a sore thumb. More excellence please!
