Blog Quotes #574 & 575...

Today, a double dose of Mr Thomas Edison..

Here's Blog Quote #574...
"I start where other men leave off."
-Thomas Edison-

Edison is trying to let us all know that in life, usually the hard part starts after you have 'failed.' In this definition of failed--  what IS being stated, is that you just didn't accomplish your goal, and it's time to try something else. It's not time to give up-- for that, would be failure.

Edison knew a little bit about 'failure.' He is quoted as saying "I have not failed, I have just found over 10,000 ways that won't work." This was on his way to discovering the light bulb.  When all was said and done, the genius inventor-- is credited to one-thousand-and- ninety three (1093) patents. Holy guacamole!

Blog quote #575...
"I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded-- is another step forward."
-Thomas Edison-

There is a man who isn't afraid to jump in, try different things, tweak, twist, turn, and try all sorts of stuff, until the right connection is made, or formula is found.
Perhaps we can learn a thing or two, from Mr Edison?

Blog Quote #573

Here's Blog Quote #573...
"Nothing will be attempted if all possible obstacles must first be removed."
-Samuel Johnson-

All possible obstacles?  That's not how life is... you will never be able to remove all possible obstacles. Some-- we won't ever even be able to see, or know about.

Also, nothing wrong with trying to eliminate as much risk as you can. However there comes a time when the trigger must be pulled. When "go time" appears, it will never be perfect..

Many an opportunity was passed up-- waiting for that 'perfect moment.' Don't miss yours...

Blog Quote #572

Here's Blog Quote #572...
"Far away, there in the sunshine, are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."
-Louise May Alcott-

Nice message and reminder from Ms. Alcott on...
DREAMS
HOPE
REACHING GOALS

Gives us all something to shoot for.  It's always good-- to have hope, to have something to shoot for.

Blog Quote #571...

Here's Blog Quote #571...
"Its more important to know what you don't want to do, than what you want to do."
-Colette Powers-

Interesting twist of a thought here. I was chatting with Ms. Powers recently and we were talking about kids and young adults finding their way through life.

What do they want to do when they grow up? What occupation do they want to end up in?

In a perfect world-- we know what we want when we turn about 17-18.
Then, we go to college, get a degree, come out and dive right into our field of choice, and work passionately for the next 30-50 years, until  retiring happily ever after.

Sound common?  Ha!  That might happen, in 1 out of 100 cases. Probably closer to 1 in 250.

Sometimes, as Powers suggests, we try on many occupations and along the way-- we determine what we DON'T want to do or be. And after a few trial and errors in the job market- an interesting thing happens::

In finding out what we didn't care for-- life or the universe pushes or directs us toward what we DO enjoy. Often in those experiences, is where we find out what our true passions and desires are, and we end up following those paths.

Life-- it's always full of curve balls and irony. But would we want it any other way?

Blog Quote #570

Here's Blog Quote #570...
"The best person to get even with--is someone who has helped you."
-Anonymous-

My guess is-- that wasn't what you were thinking the answer would be? Me neither.

Revenge is pretty silly anyway-- hurts another, and deep down, generally makes the 'revenger' feel worse.

What a novel, yet great idea. Help others--as they help you.

Blog Quote #569

Here's Blog Quote #569...
"The only thing certain about the future is that it will surprise even those-- who have seen furthest into it."
-E.J. Hobsbawn, historian-

Plan.
Forecast.
Research trends.
Look at history.

All good things to do.
However the future will continue-- to baffle, amaze, and surprise us all.

Until 'I Dream of Jeanie' comes alive or the infamous crystal ball of fairy tales actually comes true, that's just the way it is.

And that's a good thing. Wouldn't life be boring if we all knew what was to come?

Blog Quote #568...

Here's Blog Quote #568...
"If you do the best you can, you will find nine out of ten times, that you have done as well or better-- than anyone else."
-William Feather-

Amazing what you can do when you give it 100%.
So many others are mailing it in, or simply going through the motions.

As Chuck Mangione once wrote in a instrumental tune...'Give It All You Got'( worth you- tubing that song!)

Do your best. You'll often surprise many-- including yourself!

Blog Quote #567

Here's blog quote #567...
"A man's achievements are often discussed, but seldom the principles by which he lives."
-Thomas Kempis-

We often inquire of people being brave, handsome, rich, a good writer, clever, a fine singer, or a hard worker.

I often wondered why this is. Shouldn't we place more-- on character, integrity, patience, morals, and who is behind the surface of the (wo)man?

As Coach Wooden says-- "There is a big difference between character and reputation. Reputation is what people think you are, and character is WHO you are." Don't worry so much about the reputation, and concentrate on rock solid character.

A suggestion: Let's all look inward-- for the real, genuine substance of a person--  rather than just the fluff and surface stuff.

Blog Quote #566

Here's Blog Quote #566...
"No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again, today."
-Buddha-

Some great stuff from the sagacious Buddha. (love that $10 word)

The stark reality is--
The past is in the books; today is a fresh start.

As a friend of mine always tells me.."Today is the first day, of the rest of my life."When you really ponder that statement, it becomes apparent--it's quite prophetic.

Blog Quote #565

Here's Blog Quote #565...
"The best resume-- is how you live your life."
-Martha Bolton-

It's all great and wonderful what you do, but in the end-- isn't it all about HOW you lived?
Character.
Integrity.
Truth.
Passion.
Ethics...

It's not who you worked for, or how many trophies, awards, and certificates you piled up. Those are all good.

However, it's really all about how you lived. How you played the game of life. We all appreciate when others exercise the qualities and characteristics listed above. Let's all do our personal best, to live them out as well.

Blog quote #564...

Here's blog quote #564...
"Its a rash man who reaches a conclusion, before he gets to it."
-Jacob Levin-

Rash as in hasty, ill advised, reckless, foolhardy, and incogitant($10 word).

We'll file this one in the category of 'patience.'

Most of the rushed conclusions are incorrect and dangerous.
Thus, lets all exercise some patience-- before 'rushing' and 'rashing' to poor and improper conclusions.

Blog Quote #563

Here's Blog Quote #563...
If 50 million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing."
-Anatole France-

Just a few thoughts popped into my head here:

Think before you speak.
Crowd followers... don't always be one.
And have the courage to stand out and say what you think, even if it goes against the current of public opinion.

Blog Quote #562

Here's blog quote # 562...
"The key to everything, is patience. You get the chicken, by hatching the egg, not by smashing it."
-Unknown-

Patience.
Do you have excellent, good or poor patience?

If you are like most, you'll fall into the lower of the categories.
It's tough to have it. Yet as the tried and true line goes, it truly is a virtue.

Anyone ever state these lines...
"I should have  held out a bit longer."
"I really rushed that decision."
If I'd only known this would have happened, I would have waited."

Versus this line... "Man I was too patient." or
"I should have jumped on it sooner..." said not many people, ever.

Let's all try to avoid smashing more eggs and letting them hatch, naturally. Patience my friends, patience.

Blog Quote # 561

Here's Blog Quote #561...
"Genius is more often found in a cracked pot, than a whole one."
-E.B.White-

Aren't the brilliant ones a 'little off?''
A bit quirky?
Somewhat eccentric?

People don't get ahead by blending in. The sheep that follow the herd rarely do much that is noteworthy, earth-shattering,  or worth remembering.

Maybe being called a 'little odd,' is a different form- of a strong compliment?
Hmm...
