What a Superb Statement--to end 2015 /begin 2016

Blog quote #823...

Reporter: "What do you think of Western Civilization?
Mahatma Gandhi: "I think it would be a good idea."
We couldn't think of a better thought or quote to end 2015 on, and to look forward to the coming year. May 2016 EXCEED all your anticipated expectations.
Let's ALL-- do our part-- to make this planet we live on, a better place to inhabit.

Two more Excellent Pieces of Advice--

Blog quote #822...

"Take care of your thoughts when you are alone, and take care of your words when you are with people." Unknown-
Two quality pieces of advice to heed in life.
Both of these gems are highly underestimated and should be ignored-- with the greatest of caution.

Did you UNDERSTAND what I just told you?

Blog quote #821...

"I know what I have given you. I do not know what you have received." -Antonio Porchia-
A quote that's main subject deals with one of two things:
a.)Learning and how effective was the transfer of communication.
b.)Listening versus understanding.
Both a) and b) above are very important topics to work very hard at mastering. First, to communicate our message is as important as anything. Second, true effective listening translates into better, more effective understanding.
Class dismissed for today!

2 quality comments-- about Our Conscience

Blog quotes #819 and #820...

"Keep conscience clear, then never fear." -Ben Franklin-
"Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world."  -George Bernard Shaw -
Two good quotes from very smart and successful people. Both hint at the idea that we all have a conscience for a reason.
Be certain to listen to your conscience, as it will most likely serve you well. On the flip side, ignore it at your own risk.

Pride or Humbleness... which do you choose?

Blog quote #818...

"Someone who is proud of their humility, probably doesn't really have it." -Seen on a poster" -
Hmm!
Two words that you don't usually see paired in the same sentence; proud and humility.  Given the two choices, humbleness is almost always the longer term, better choice.
(Note:Not referring to pride in your country, school, or faith here. More like boastful, cocky pride.)

The best way to INSTRUCT...

Blog quote #817...

"When you wish to instruct, be brief; that men's minds a.) take in quickly what you say b.)learn it's lesson, and c.)retain it faithfully. Every word that is unnecessary only pours over the side of a brimming mind." -Cicero-
Tremendous lesson on brevity, and just saying what needs to be said. At risk of being repetitive, just tell us  what we need to know and give it to us so we quickly absorb it, learn from it and retain it. Keep it simple!

Blog quote #816...

Two great statements on the importance-- of UNITY

Blog quotes #813 and 814...

"For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf, is the pack." -Rudyard Kipling-
"Although we are in different boats--- you in your boat and us in our canoe--- we share the same river of life." -Chief Oren Lyons-
Two quotes today, to remind us of UNITY. We all need each other to feed off and to grow from. It's a heck of a lot easier trying to help and get along with one another than to be divisive and combative.
Finally we are reminded by the great Martin Luther King that "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

What is truly behind WINNING...

Blog quote #812...

"The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital." -Joe Paterno-
Couldn't agree more here with Paterno. Need to have that burning desire and sheer dogged-ness.
With that stated, usually the will to prepare gives us a very accurate barometer in how serious the will to win truly is.

Superb quote about Past, Present, and Future

Blog quote #811...

"It is difficult to live in the present, ridiculous to live in the future, and impossible to live in the past. Nothing is as far away as one minute ago." -Jim Bishop-
This is SO ingenious, because it is SO true! The wording of this quote is fantastic!
Difficult to live in the present? How many of us cannot do this? Answer: Almost no one can all the time and most of us have trouble living in the present for even one full day.
Living in the moment, being present now, is somewhat like listening--it's something all of us can work to become better at.
Ridiculous to live in the future? Agreed again, because who knows what the future holds. We make all these plans and think this or that will happen,  and rarely does it play out as we imagined. The future can't accurately be predicted and we sure can't live there(unless we are Michael J Fox), so it IS ridiculous to try.
Impossible to live in the past? In brief, yes, it is. Although so many of us remain stuck in the past and don't want to get on with today's living.  As the statement says, it is IMPOSSIBLE to live in the past. Because it's gone. It already happened. Just like that one minute ago--it's toast as well.
Message:  Live for today. A common spiritual prayer is 'Give me today, my DAILY BREAD.'  Today is all we have, thus, it would be prudent to get our body and mind in the game, and sharply focused,  on the here and now.

Something to be CAREFUL OF...

Blog quote #808...

"Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes." -Henry David Thoreau-
I believe Thoreau is suggesting to be leery of companies/places/people who won't accept you as you are, and are trying to change or 'upgrade' you?
If correct, I agree with his 'be cautious of these types' assessment. How did you read this quote?

Major difference between ANGRY and LOVING people...

Blog quote #807...

"Angry people want you to see how powerful they are. Loving people want you to see how powerful YOU are." -Chief Red Eagle-
Are you familiar with the 'Fruits of the Spirit?'
Love, Peace, Joy, Patience, Kindness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, Goodness, and Self- Control. There are zero laws against any of these.
I  believe comment two falls under 'Love' while comment one, by the angry people, is not on this list.  Stick to these fruits and, in life, they'll  guide you just fine.
Well stated, Chief!

Giver or Receiver--which do you prefer?

Blog quote #806...

"Through the years I have found it wonderful to acquire, but it is also wonderful to divest. It's rather like exhaling." -Helen Hayes-
Would you rather give, or receive?
This is not a trick question. Short term most would likely answer in the receive category. It's just the way us humans are wired...well most of us.
I however, have learned in my maturing years that it is far more fulfilling to be the giver. It feels GREAT. The benefits of giving, sharing and helping others far outweigh, to me, than being on the receiving end.
What say you? Certainly some good fodder to think about, thanks to Ms. Hayes!

Discussions of Talent vs. Hard Work

Blog quotes #803, 804 and 805...

Blog Quote #803
"There may be people that have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.." -Derek Jeter-
Wow- gut punching truth, from one of the greatest (and hard working) baseball  players in the world. Note that we didn't say baseball talents. Not that Jeter doesn't have his fair share of talent, but there is a guy who brought his lunchpail, work boots and his sweat to the job, daily.
Good  reminder for all of us. Further  piling onto this quote;  ask many coaches and they'll take a hard working person with average skill, over a gifted person with lazy work ethic-- every time.
In fact, Blog Quote #804 adds this..
"The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by house and hours of beating on your craft." -Will Smith-
Wow... hours and hours?  And  if you care to research, check more in to Will Smith's comments...when he says  'beating on your craft,' he means  BEATING on your craft!
And Blog quote #805 says
"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard."  -Kevin Durant-
Is all this beginning to make sense? There is zero substitute for working. Now, whatever it is you are trying to accomplish, get back to work!

Time to RE-LOOK at Who your Friends are?

Blog quote #803...

"Evaluate the people in your life. Then either promote, demote or terminate. Take charge, as YOU are the CEO of your life." -Sign seen somewhere-
Thanks to Inspiration Station on FB for this reminder.
Sometimes we need to slow down, do an inventory check of what the heck is going on in our lives, and re-direct. Remind ourselves WE are  in charge of us at the end of the day.
So a little analysis, leading to some house cleaning isn't a bad idea, now and then.

Is a Sense of Humor Important?

Blog quote #802...

"We cannot really love anybody with whom we never laugh." -Agnes Repplier-
How big does a sense of humor really play in our relationships? Clearly there is some sort of link to connecting with people, and sharing some laughs with them.
Some people, are just too darn serious and consequently not much fun to be around. Hey, we aren't getting out of this world alive anyway, so as Sgt. Hulka once said in the movie 'Stripes,'  "Lighten up, Francis"

The problem with Liar's

Blog quote #801...

"The liar's punishment is not in the least that he is not believed, but that he cannot believe anyone else."  -George Bernard Shaw-
Sometimes the fate of irony can be pretty cruel.
I believe Shaw is onto something very true to the core here. It must stink that nobody believes a liar, even when they ARE in fact, telling the truth.
But because of their conniving nature--they instinctively have the lack of trust in others. Tough one to live with, but as the saying goes...'When you lie down with dogs, you get fleas.' Anyone else agree here with Shaw?

A Stinky View--on Pessimism

Blog quote #800...

"How happy are the pessimists! What joy is theirs if/when they have proved there is no joy?"  -Marie Eber-Eschenbach-
As we've suggested in the past.. there is  hardly a reason( if any) to be a pessimist. Lots of downside, and zero upside. This statement from Marie flows right along with the "out to the garbage with pessimism, and the attitudes that go with it."
Just say NO, to pessimism. That is of course, unless you WANT to be miserable.

Anyone Trying to Lose Weight?

Blog quote #799...

"I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren't in the book. I even tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets." -Dolly Parton-
Some advice, from the great country singer. Well not really, but it was pretty funny and made the point that most diets don't work, because they taste so awful.
Perhaps try to find one that's actually something you can work with for an extended period of time. Think lifestyle change.

Why is NEW so scary?

Blog quote #797...

"One of the greatest pains to human nature is the pain of a new idea." -Walter Bagehot-
On the surface this seems like a strange statement. Yet, people don't like change. They claim to be too busy and don't care to try something foreign to them, or want to take on a different project. New to them is unknown, a risk, maybe not reliable.
Of course on the other side, new is  creative ideas. New is innovative. Or new could be considered better, or faster, or wiser,or fresher?
Look at new as new. Think about this--how would anything ever get improved in life if we never sought out the new? Give it a chance...

Worry-- WHY DO IT?

Blog quote #795...

"Worry is an old man with a bent head, carrying a load of feathers he thinks is lead."   -Anonymous-
Worry is a waste of time, and does nothing to solve the problem. Most of the time, the things we worry about never even come true.
So, next time you start worrying- a.) catch yourself and b.) re-direct your thinking toward solutions and other positive things.  You'll be glad you did, you'll be less stressed and you'll become more productive. All good things.

Brilliant Advice for Campaigners

Blog quote #793...

"I offer my opponents a bargain: If they stop telling lies about us,I will stop telling the truth about them."  -Adlai Stevenson, 1952 campaign speech-
Since it was around election time, thought this was appropriate. Genius mix of words here. We love the use of the word bargain
Then, Stevenson uses statements of opposite, to drive home an excellent point. Brilliant!

OF GREAT IMPORTANCE: Treat your employees well..

Blog quote #792...

"Take away my people but leave my factories, and soon grass will grow on the factory floors. Take away my factories, but leave my people, and  soon we will have a new and better factory."  -Andrew Carnegie-
The point Carnegie is making here is that his people were and are his most important asset. The sooner more companies understand this, the better productivity and customer satisfaction will be. In fact, happier employees-and everything improves.
Seems like everyone is cutting corners when it comes to employees, to save a buck, and it ends up costing companies more in the end. Pinch pennies but lose dollars.
Southwest Air said it best..."Customer satisfaction is not our number one goal. Employee satisfaction is." If the employees are treated great, they'll walk through walls for their company and give maximum effort. Result-customer satisfaction will go through the roof.

Blog quote #791...

Do YOU admit your mistakes?

Blog quote #789...

"Always acknowledge a fault. This will throw those in authority off their guard and also,  give you an opportunity to commit more. -Mark Twain-
We love this quote for a couple of reasons. First, people aren't used to being humble, admitting their mistakes, for fear of showing  weakness. On the contrary, it's actually a sign of strength, to be able to admit when you are wrong.
Second, Twain kicks in  his sense of humor, letting people know that we are human we do make mistakes, and it's likely we'll make more. And that's fine, too.
Yes we all should learn from our errors and try not to commit the same ones over and over, but it's just part of the deal that we will be making a few slip-ups, and 'oop-sies' along the way.
Just letting you know...OK?
