Quotes #298-299-300

I thought it would be special to get to 300 quotes before the year is out so here are 3 quotes on STARTING NEW...

Quote #298...
"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today, and make a new ending."
-Maria Robinson-

How good, and how true is that?

Quote #299...
Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.
-Og Mandino-

Og was one of the best..If you ever get the chance, read his book a 'A Better Way To Live'. It's a real eye opener.

Quote # 300...

"2010 is all yours, baby."
-The Universe(tut.com)-

Now there are 5 powerful words that say a mouthful.

Welcome to the NEW DECADE. May it be all you desire it to be.

Quote #297, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #297...

"In the new year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, but never in want."
-Irish proverb-

May your friends be many and your problems few. When you extend your hand, remember that to give(help) is much more pleasurable than to receive.

As Zig Ziglar says, "if you help enough other people get what they want in life, you will eventually get what you want in life." I think that is one of the best statements ever from one of this planet's best motivators ever. Truly a genuine real deal guy as well. I know, because I had the pleasure of meeting his family and him for a half hour conversation backstage.

End the decade with the favor of a helping hand. Can you think of any better way to go out?

Quote #296, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #296...

"To get the full value of a joy, you must first have someone to divide it."
-Mark Twain-

Isn't that odd? To get the full value of something you have to split it in half with someone? It's one of those statements that seem to contradict, yet they are true, and they make sense. Any English majors out there know what these are called?

On similar lines, Lenard Nimoy, aka Mr Spock of Star Trek said "The more we share, the more we have." How can that be that when we give something away, we actually have MORE? It's one of those life miracles. Can't explain it, but I love that it works this way.

Back to Twain's quote... isn't that so true, something about doing something or accomplishing something, it's so much better if there is someone to tell, or to experience it rather than doing it alone. Sharing brings great joy. Well done Mr. Twain for pointing this out to us.

Quote #295, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #295...

"Live everyday as if it's your last....one day it will be."
-unknown-

What a great quote. It's succinct, positive, motivating, realistic, yet a bit depressing, all in one quote. If you utilize the quote properly, I think it can have a very moving and beneficial effect on you.

Can't wait to hear what you say on this one, fellow readers.

Quote #294, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #294...

"Tsze-Kung asked "is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The master said "is not reciprocity such a word? What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others."

-Confucius-

Just another way to explain the Golden Rule. I found this to be very creative to shrink it all down to just one simple word.

Reciprocity. Hmm... it does make sense. That should be a very powerful single word to remember, in treating other human beings.

Quote #293, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #293...

"It is more important to click with people, than to click with the shutter."
-Alfred Eisenstadt, photographer-

This is a secret shared by a very successful photographer. What a gem of advice this is. For budding young photographers, they'd be wise to take a "picture" of that tip and lock it in their memory bank. For everyone in general, pretty heady wisdom as well.

Social skills are worthy. The ability to get along with people is priceless.

Quote #292, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #292...

"Have some fun, help some people, make some money."
-Jude Murray-

I was talking business with Jude the other day and while kicking around some ideas, we came up with some interesting possibilities. We got to laughing and the conversation was one of those that felt like we discussed some great ideas, while having fun. As we came to the end of the chat, she closed with that line.

I thought it was a pretty sensible statement. Practical too. Seemed like there was quite a bit 'right' with having fun and helping people while making a buck, so the fun and helping people could continue.

Quote #291, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #291...

"We inherit our relatives and our features and may not escape them; but we can select our clothing and our friends. Let us be careful that both fit us."
-Volney Streamer-

Great analogy. Clothes that don't fit are bad because they look awkward, they don t feel right, and if I may, they lack your attention to detail. Note that I am excluding comfortable clothes and sweats when just hanging out or otherwise appropriate.

Friends as well, should be chosen to fit. Note the word CHOSEN. You do have a choice in who you hang out with. Make sure that you enjoy their company and they add to your plate, not weigh it down with hassles, problems and constant negativity. Be looking for friends that fit, that compliment each other.

Quote #290, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #290...

"Intelligence is.. what other people have, when they agree with you."
-Edward Macbeth-

This struck me as funny. Maybe because it's close to home and what many of us actually think.

Which brings up the point.. when we ask others their opinions...are we really searching for what they think, or are we looking for people that agree with what WE THINK?

Quote #289, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #288...

"There is no pyschiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face."
-Ben Williams-

Can anyone disagree with this? In fact, is there anything cuter in the world than a new puppy wagging it's tail directly at YOU, spreading happy energy as powerful as the sun?

Puppies and dogs. One of the best things ever put here on earth. Let's all give thanks to puppies, dogs, and to all other wonderful blessings we have.

Ooh.. and lets not forget that distinctive aroma of...puppy breath. MMMM

Quote #288, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #288...

"If you do not push the boundaries, you will never know where they are."
-T.S Elliot-

One very simple question for you..... Do you know WHERE YOUR boundaries are?

If not.. no time like the present to start testing, experimenting, and finding out. The sands of life continue to fall through the hourglass at all times.

Quote #286, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #286...

"Don't be put off by people who know what is not possible. Do what needs to be done, and check to see if it was impossible only after you are done."
-Paul Hawken-

Love this. Strong, powerful. Ignore the people wasting their time telling you why it can't be done. Use your time 'doing it'. It might surprise you what you CAN get done, when in action, when positive, and when doing something productive.

As always, best to ignore the negative vibes, commentary and predictions of critics and pessimists. Do what you can do, not to worry about what you think you can't do.

Quote #285, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #285...

"If you rest, you rust."
-Helen Hayes, 93 year old actress-

Helen is so on the money. Many sayings jump into my mind. Your only as old as you feel. Mind over matter. Everything is as you percieve it to be, are just a few.

How many elder folk do you know that continue to do amazing things well into their years? Here are a few for you. Google the 85 year old showgirl in Las Vegas. How about the 99 year old judge found on Daryn Kagan.com? And my favorite of all time.. 88 yr old mayor, Hurricane Hazel of Mississagua, Ontario, Canada. Be sure to find out about her incredible feats.

A few more things to check out...... the website Silver Planet .com has some great stuff. Also, Growing Bolder.com is full of stories of people north of 70 that do more than a clasroom full of teenagers. As Helen Hayes says.. keep it moving!!!

Quote #282, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #282...

"Follow the trail to your dreams, not the path of others expectations."
-Byrd Baggett-

I thought this was a pretty good way to start this Monday morning. At times, we get de-railed by listening to too many of others peoples thoughts and opinions.

And really, when you think about it... who knows MORE about what you are trying to accomplish than you? Who has put in more hours, research, hard work and brainstorming than you? Finally who has the vision and the desire and drive to make this all happen? Hint: not the "others", and their expectations of you.

As a final point.... do you really care... about others expectations of you? It might be of more value to live up to your own expectations. HMMMM.

Quote #281, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #281...

"The customer is not always right. However, the customer does always win."
Donna Walter, retail store manager-

What a great quote here by Ms Walter. We have all heard the line in business.. the customer is always right. In today's business world, it is ever important to give your clients and customers A1, Gold Star, Top Dog treatment. The reality however, is, the customer is not always right.

I believe the quoter here was sharing this with her staff in a positive way. If the customer WAS always right, then that would mean the employee would always be wrong. Not the case, impossible, and also a downer! With that stated, to give the customer the red carpet treatment is still the ultimate goal. While recognizing that they may not technically be right, try to make it so they do get their way, ie winning. I found this to be excellent managing on Walter's part. Everybody wins.

Quote #280, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #280...

"May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions."
-Joey Adams-

This of course applies to everyone except the few percentage who do actually keep their resolutions. Did you ever wonder why people do these year after year and never follow through on them?

Perhaps this year a possible resolution is to only make resolutions that you are committed to keep and follow through on? Just a thought. Anyhow.. may your troubles be brief and your joyous occasions be plentiful and long lasting.

Quote #279, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #279...

"I haven't had money for 21 years. What's another year?"
-Warrick Dunn, NFL running back-

When they asked Florida State running back standout if he was going to leave after his junior year to go to the pros, that was his quote. One of the best answers I've ever heard.

Stay in school. Get your degree. It stays with you for life. Be patient. Good things come to those who wait. I realize that football is a tough sport and due to the contact on the body, playing time is limited... but that is looking well into the future. What about the extra year you cut short of college life? Of experiences? Of growing into a complete adult?

As Warrick said, the money will be there. And what will be will be. Some play for 20 years, ala, Brett Favre, and some get an early retirement due to injuries. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally, I love Warrick Dunn's attitude here!

Quote #278, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #278...

"These are the greatest days of your life. Don't be afraid of them. Love every minute of what you are doing."
-Terry Bowden, football coach-

What a shaker and mover quote. Makes me want to get going, and get to whatever I need to be getting to. Stop lollygagging around, be blunt, and cut to the chase. Don't act like life goes on forever, for as we know, it doesn't.

Enjoy these great days. Squeeze the most out of each and every one of them. Today may not be the last day of your life, but someday, it will be. Let's make today great. Tomorrow we can work on tomorrow's events.

Quote #277, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #277...

"A short pen is better than a long memory."
-Confucius-

As my mom taught me.. why try to clog your memory with so many un-necessary and non- important things? That's what post it notes are for. If you ever saw my house, its filled with post it yellow sticky notes.

Also when driving in the car, always have a pen and paper handy. Great ideas come when cruising around the roads of life. And no.... you cannot remember them all. Write them down. Thats what pens were made for. Save the brain for more important things.

Quote #276, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #276...

"We found that the best single predictor we had as to how aggressive a young person would be at age 19 was the violence of the tv programs that he preferred when he was 8 years old."
-Leonard Eron, psychologist-

When talking of the shape of our bodies, they say we are what we eat. When talking about the condition of our mind.. the same pattern follows. We are what we watch, what we listen to, who we hang out with, and what we read. Garbage in, garbage out. Good food for the brain in, good results.

Ten to twenty years ago it was tv's, radios, movies in the theatres, and albums and cassettes. Today, it's ipods, DVDs, CD's , X boxes and MP3's. What are your kids watching and listening to? What types of other kids are they associating with? Are they reading good stuff or junk?

I'd be willing to bet that Dr Eron's findings still hold true today. HMMMM

Quote #275, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #275...

"The difference between involvement and commitment is like ham and eggs. The chicken is involved. The pig is committed.
-Martina Navratilova-

Holy visual Batman! Do you think a quote could be any more brief to the point and so powerfully descriptive?

What a great summation of the difference between just being involved and being totally 'all in', as they say in poker.
To me, to be involved shows interest, but a commitment makes a statement that whatever the task is... will be completed. It means total effort. Much more sincerity. Much more of a promise. Perhaps that's why many are so scared to make commitments, whether it be a friendship, a business deal, an idea to follow through with, or even a marriage proposal. Next time you are trying to decide whether to commit or not, remember the chicken and the pig.

Quote #274, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #274...

"Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm."
-Winston Churchill-

The wonderful thing about this quote is that if you don't lose your enthusiasm.. the "failures" will not be failures . They will turn into stepping stones that lead to successes.

Failure is almost a poorly termed word. We think of failure as a BAD THING. Failures really are just experiences along the way to finding the right path. The key, as Churchill says, is keeping the chin up. Forging ahead. Not getting dismayed or discouraged. In my opinion, this is what we call a "printable" at The Think Tank. In other words, this one may be worth printing off and keeping for re-review at a moments notice. Perhaps when you have so called"failed". Pull it out, refresh your mind with this quote, and keep moving toward your SUCCESS!

Quote #273, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #273...

"As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled."
-Victor Hugo-

As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled.
To share with another.. aah to be thrilled.

To be philanthropic, to share, to give, to donate.
What else can you do....... to feel so great?

Sure it's nice to receive a treasure.
But oddly, to give, gives you... such pleasure.

So do something nice and watch for their smile
Long live good feelings, they'll last for awhile.

You now know the secret..... so pass it on.
So others can experience.....the GIVING BATON.

Quote #272, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #272...

"If people only knew how hard I work to gain my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all."
-Michelangelo-

Two things came to mind when I read this quote. First is that the professionals make things look so "easy". If people knew behind the scenes all that goes into anything that is great, they would be shocked. There is a reason that there are only a few 'masters' who are at the top of their game. It's because most don't have the drive, desire, energy, persistence to do WHAT IT TAKES to be a master of whatever the subject is.

Second, we all wonder how cool it would be to be a star, be the best, be someone that all others look up to. Again we don't recognize the price that these famous people pay for being who they are. Just imagine everywhere you go, someone wants your autograph or wants to talk to you about your specialty. It's a great thing and an honor, but believe me.. the people that handle all the notoriety with class, grace and humbleness, I give a gold star to. Everything, even fame, isn't all its cracked up to be.

Quote #271, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #271...

"Neck ties should be outlawed. How smart is it to start off your day by tying a noose around your neck"
-unknown salesman-

Is this a pitch for the ever growing casual look? Perhaps it's just a stroke of comedy being thrown at us?

I kind of always liked 'dress down day'. Something about being relaxed and wearing comfortable clothes just felt great. I always got more done after 5 pm when the phones shut off. Even Saturday's, when you go into work, you feel like your getting a leg up on the world.

So I'm all for dress down day and getting rid of the tie.. for the most part. There is a time and place for them and certain meetings and/or jobs require them. But something about the psyche, and no tie, and comfort clothes( professional casual) works well with me.How about you?

Quote #270, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #270...

"To educate a man in mind and not morals is to educate a menace to society"
-Teddy Roosevelt-

I couldn't agree more with the former president. The problem is, in my opinion, it appears that the morals of our society are lessening and in decay.

When people start doing whatever they want without the thought of decency to other humans around them.. trouble is around the corner. When selfish acts occur with rapidly increasing frequency, chaos is close by. The golden rule appears to be such a sound and simple concept, yet is it not being taught, forgotten about,or just plain ignored?

Know anyone like this? Of course you do. We all do. My advice, avoid them as much as you can. Don't need more negativity in the world. What good is it hanging around someone who is always finding fault?

I always try looking for the 'good' in people. You normally don't have to search too hard to find it, for whatever that advice is worth?

Quote #265, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #265...

"I believe in hard work. It keeps the wrinkles out of the mind and spirit."
-Helena Rubinstein-

Did you ever notice the people who forgo "retirement" and keep working? Even if it isn't officially in the business world. The people that are always moving, doing something. My father is first that comes to mind. He is more than well past the 'so called' retirement age of 65. Yet he has always said he would never retire. He enjoys his work, it keeps him busy both mentally and physically. It also keeps him in touch with the real world. He couldn't be more bored with the thought of moving to Florida, playing golf and bridge every day, having a 6 pm dinner/ martini, and going home to watch TV at 7 30 and falling asleep by 8 30. Never gonna happen for him.

Next I think of a 86 year old woman who is at every single game of her six grandkids. Boy do they keep her busy, and that woman has more energy than the Eveready bunny. A third lady who is also well into her 80's walks every day, does a ton of volunteer work, helps out the church about 10 hrs a week, and is also EXTREMELY active in watching her grandkids play sports and band.

Apparently, the lesson here is keep moving and have plenty to do on your schedule. Nothing greater than seeing a senior with twice the energy of a teenager. Thanks to my Dad, Mrs Brennan and Byrne, and all the older folk who inspire us daily.

"We make our decisions, and then our decisions turn around and make us."
-R.W.Boreham-

Quite the ironic quote huh?? The old flip-er-oo.

I've heard the saying more than once that the decisions and choices we make today will directly influence how our tomorrows will turn out. I believe it's true as it usually takes a bit of time for things to play out, once you have put things in motion.

Therefore, you need to be wise and cautious and careful about your decisions today. The outcomes for you and many people connected to you depend upon your selections and daily moves. Good luck!

Quote #262, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #262...

"Let us toast the fools, but for them the rest of us could not succeed."
-Mark Twain-

I have always enjoyed Mark Twain's catchy humor. It makes us think.

When I read this quote I thought of when I have waited until halftime at a game to go to the bathroom(along with the massive crowds).DUHH! Also dunce awards for when all the cars are going on 1 path and I followed along with the herd.

Although I sometimes consider myself a fool, I try to think outside the box and not just follow along with the masses. Sometimes I screw up and get burned, but many times I outfox the pack. It's been stated we only use less than 10% of our brains. Perhaps we should start putting some of the other 90% in play?

Quote #261, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #261...

"The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending; and to have the two as close together as possible."
-George Burns-

George Burns who lived to the ripe young age of 100 was known for his sarcastic and witty, blunt and to the point humor. Although his quote seems funny, it is frankly true as well. How many people like a long, boring speech or sermon? If we face the facts, it's tough to keep people's attention for any significant amount of time.

Say what you have to say, add a story or two. Mix in a bit of humor. Get your main points across. Answer any questions people may have, and chances are, you'll be invited another time to speak again.

As president Franklin D. Roosevelt once summed up very nicely on the subject of speechmaking... "Be sincere, be brief, be seated." I think he was onto something.

Quote #260, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #260...

"If a man has done his best, what else is there?"
-General George S Patton-

I like this quote because of the succintness of it. We have all been there. We tasted defeat. We put in a clunker performance. We didn't meet our desired expectations. The outcome was not what we were looking for. Given all that, you ask yourself.. did I try my hardest? Did I give it everything that I could have?

Maybe it wasn't my BEST that I could have ACHIEVED(sometimes even our top performance is bettered by another.. cap off to them.). If I can at least say that I gave my all, left it all on the field or on the table or wherever.. thats enough. With any luck, there will be another day to try again.

Quote #259, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #259...

"The moment you DECIDE on a goal to work toward, you're immediately a successful person. You are then in that rare and successful category of people who know where they are going. Out of every 100 people, you belong to the top 5."
-Earl Nightingale-

Earl was a famous motivational speaker in the 40's-50's and 60's. He successfully wrote and recorded over 7000 radio programs includig his most famous, The Strangest Secret. That is worth your time to look it up, as it contains some great material for any and all of us.

Isn't that quote amazing ? Looked at 2 ways, isn't it sad that very few people ever DECIDE on a goal to work toward. On the other hand, isn't it pretty exciting that you could be in the top 5% of people who WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. All it takes is a decision to create a goal, and start working toward it.

Do you know what goal you are working toward?

Quote #258, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #258...

"Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish."
-John Jakes-

We are totally unique human beings. The almighty creator made us that way.

So heres a question.. why are so many of us phony? If that's too harsh a word, why don't we say what we really think, why don't we act the way we really want to act? Why are we so busy trying to be someone else, and not ourselves?

If it's because we aren't happy with ourselves, I'd suggest getting to know the real you. Besides, whomever we are trying to copy, act like, or emulate, chances are high that they have many issues as well, and they are no better off than we are.

Be yourself. BE AUTHENTIC. It's very liberating, and, people will like you for it. YOU WILL TOO.

Quote #257, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #257...

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."
-Albert Einstein-

Can we all agree that too many things in our lives are much too complicated? Including our lives.

Simplify.

Einstein is talking about concepts and information here. Things should be so simplified, that we can explain them quite easily. If not, perhaps we really don't understand what it is we are trying to explain.

Easy enough?

Quote #255, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #255...

"The one who smiles rather than angers is always stronger."
-David Schary-

Why do people get angry. Are they insecure? Are they not confident that they are 100% correct in their view? Are they cocky, conceited or possesser's of a large ego?

Maybe it's much simpler than that. The people who can laugh at something, a mistake, others opinions, the fact they they were wrong or have been corrected, tells you something good about that person. Maybe it shows signs of humbleness? To be able to laugh at yourself, at circumstances, at life..... is a good characteristic, in my opinion. Seriousness and even anger, to me, are the wrong path.

Life itself, is not that serious. Next time you have a chance to laugh or get angry, choose the former. It's much more pleasant, and fun.

Quote #254, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #254...

"Say what you want about the Ten Commandments, you must always come back to the pleasant fact that there are only ten of them."
-H.L. Mencken-

Funny, as I was reading this, my mind went in two totally different directions. I'm curious HOW you read this quote.

For me, first I thought of the simplicity of the 10 commandments. In a world of 1200 page stimulus packages, 34 page instruction manuals and other writings that seem to be unable to be simplified down to one page.. the ten commandments are pretty concise. There is something to be said for works of brevity, to the point, and written with an ease of understanding.

My second interpretation of this quote, was to be thankful there are only ten "rules" to follow . There could have been 29 or 64 of them. In addition to that, if you do a good job on the basic ten, you should be living a pretty clean and decent and respectable life.

Now.. how did you read Mencken's quote?

Quote #252, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #252...

"Keep quiet and people will think you a philosopher."
-Latin proverb-

There is an old saying that speaks of the quiet person.. they remain silent and appear very smart for when opening their mouth, they risk unmasking their intelligence.

I know of a businessman who everyone thought to be very wise. His strategy was very simple. At meetings, he remained deadly quiet, yet listened intensly. After everyone was done having their say, he would simply just repeat and summarize what others had said. People thought he was a genius when in reality he just regurgitated what was already said by others. Not a bad strategy.

Quote #251, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #251...

"Peace is better than a fortune."
-St Francis of Sales-

Is peace better than a fortune? Usually a fortune, although something most seem to want to obtain, comes with its share of problems and challenges.

I think this is a great conversation "peace"( pardon the pun). Care to chime in your thoughts on this quote?

Quote #250, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #250...

"No man ever became great or good except through many and great mistakes."
-William Gladstone-

Mistakes are good? You betcha!

How would we ever learn if everything always went right or if we won everything we attempted?

And on the other side.. how many things do we not find out about because we are too scared to try, or too hesitant to get out of our comfort zone? The answer is plenty! Furthermore, since we didn't try something, we don't know WHAT WE MISSED.So the message here is.......
Try something. Go for it. Use more of the powerful brain that we have.. studies show we use only about 7% ( yes SEVEN percent).

Step out on a limb.. thats where the fruit is anyways.

Quote #249, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #249...

"I have never been mad at myself for spending too much for an item, but I have often regretted spending too little. You get what you pay for."
-Peter Corning Sr.-

Can anyone relate here? This is a further example of the quote: Price, quality, service, pick any two you like.

I agree with Mr Corning wholeheartedly. That so called 'bargain' that you got at such a good price, may not be a bargain after all. Especially since you had to replace it and pay again for another one just 6 months down the road. What about that used car that seemed like such a great deal, even a STEAL? Turned out to be a clunker.

We all have a story or two about the deal that turned into a nightmare. Are there good bargains to be had? Of course. But as always, do your homework. Sometimes what seems like the deal of the century might even seem too good to be true. It probably is. If you go with great quality and excellent service, 99 times out of 100, its worth paying a little extra for.

Quote #248, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #248...

"A great way to show gratitude for what I have in life is when I substitute the words 'I GET TO' for the words 'I HAVE TO' ."
-Rena Reese, founder, Soul Salon International-

Think about how many times we say I have to go pick up the kids or I have to visit Grandma or I have to order the pizza for the family tonight. What if your kids were sick and unable to go out of the house where you get to go pick them up. How about Grandma. Not everyone's Grandma is still with us and some people would love the opportunity to get to go see their Grandma again. The ability to get to order out a pizza and not have to eat leftovers for the 4th night in a row is pretty special as well.

If you think about it, any time you catch yourself saying I HAVE TO 'whatever' , you can almost always replace that comment with I GET TO. This allows you a chance to give thanks and gratitude for ALL that you are blessed with.

Just a thought, and a good one at that, by Ms. Reese. I don't have to tell her thank you but I want to and get to tell her thank you.

Quote #247, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #247...

"The great dividing line between success and failure can be stated in five words: I did not have time."
-Henry Davenport-

Bravo Mr Davenport. Anyone else think that "I did not have time" is extremely overused, trite, and more stale than 9 day old bread? Last I checked, we ALL have the same amount of time and we all know how much that is. 24 hours, or 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds are in a day.

And when is the last time you didn't find the time to do the things you REALLY want to do? I could call Donald Trump up and tell him that I have 1 million dollars waiting for him, if he just makes the time to swing by personally and pick it up. He'd be there.

So I wish people would stop saying "I dont have time", or even better, I'm busy. Who isn't busy these days? Maybe they should tell the truth and say I'm not interested, or, I have other higher priority things I have to/like to do. Don't use time as an excuse. Excuses are lame.

Quote #244, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #244...

"You never love anything that doesn't or can't love you back."
-Cruse Howe-

What a great little 11 word message there. Some real genuine POWER behind that. When I read this, I thought of all the trivial and material things that we seem to obsess over. HMMM....where do I start?

How many people get caught up in the love of money? The greed of money? How many problems has that caused in our society? How about material things like cars, jewelry, antiques, etc? Some of us are totally in love with celebrities and we put them on pedestals, almost worshiping them. How silly is that? What about vices such as drinking , smoking, gambling and other detrimental habits. Ok to enjoy them, but to LOVE them and get carried away with them? Come on! Moderation in everything.

Remember; love things that can love you back. Humans and animals are a pretty good start. Not a bad tip here, from Mr Howe.

Quote #243, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #243...

"You'll never leave where you are, until you decide where you'd rather be."
-Author undisclosed-

Change. Did you ever notice it's one thing that most of us humans shy away from? Perhaps it's the unknown? Maybe the uncomfortableness? Why leave the home nest or get out of the comfort zone that we are familiar with?

I find this statement to be dead on. Until you know where you want to go, there is no sense in leaving. Sadly, I see many people that are in dead end jobs, or just places of employment that they want to leave but haven't. Maybe they need to DECIDE where they want to go, and then... get moving??
Just a thought.

Quote #242, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #242...

"When opportunity knocks at the door, most people are out in the back yard looking for 4 leaf clovers."
-Ben Franklin-

Isn't it funny how so many opportunities are passed by? Some say that opportunities are just disguised as problems. Usually the bigger the problem the larger the potential opportunity.

Another theory out there is one man's junk is another man's treasure. Show me a guy having a problem and on the other side of the coin, somewhere in that 'problem' lies a chance for something great. My father made his living in real estate, buying other peoples 'problems' at severely discounted prices. He did some creative thinking, some hard work, some rehabbing and poof.. problem converted to opportunity.

What problems and opportunities are you missing out on? Keep those eyes and ears on the lookout. A wise man once said.."you find..... what you are looking for."

"I've been waiting so long, I think I've recovered."
-Overheard in a doctor's office-

This is more true than you may think. They say time heals most stuff including wounds and a majority of other illnesses.

Anyone know any hypochondriacs? My sister for one takes her kids to the doctor, every time they burb or pass gas. Mother nature is a pretty good physician herself, if you do the basics of rest, water, some good food, and a little chicken soup. Some TLC from Mom never hurts either.

Here goes blog quote #239...

"If I finish second in the country at Notre Dame, everybody calls me an idiot. If a guy finishes last in medical school, they call him a doctor."
-Lou Holtz-

Two things come to mind after reading this quote. First, do we place way to much emphasis on winning sports as a society? Second, where are our priorities?

One of the reasons I idol and respect Coach John Wooden is that he does not stress the final score, but to him if you did your best and more importantly, if you gave it your all that day..THAT is winning. Usually, if the fundamentals have been learned properly and practiced long and hard, those, coupled with your 100% effort; the score will takes care of itself. Don't get me wrong here.Wooden likes to win like anyone else, but his definition of winning differs quite a bit from most others. I'm with Wooden.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #236...

"Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for."
-Socrates-

Did you ever notice that many ideas that we come up with are not "new". Somewhere, someone has probably thought of or tried or suggested the same thing that you are thinking or doing. Many feet have walked on this path before us over the years.

What I took Socrates to be saying is that many people before our time have done things and written about them. There is HUGE knowledge and wisdom in libraries, on computers, in books and encyclopedias and wikipedias. Example: Think and Grow Rich, that I happen to be re -reading at the present time. Written in 1937. A fascinating story how one man, Napolean Hill took TWENTY YEARS(20) of his life to study 100 or so of the most successful men in his era and what they did to become successful. You think there is anything to be learned in that book? How about The Joy of Cooking written in 1936; best selling cookbook ever. I bet the recipes are still pretty valid, and tasty. War and Peace written in 1869 has a nugget or 2 of wisdom. And our quotesman, Socrates, goes back "only" to 400 BC. He has written a thing or two worth your reading time.

Moral of the story.. you don't have to reinvent the wheel.. do some reading of our past forefathers.. you' ll learn plenty, and accomplish great things. To use a stale line... you don't have to be a rocket scientist. Just read about them and apply what they already found out for us!

Here goes blog quote #235...

"Have confidence that if you have done a little thing well, you can do a bigger thing well too."
-David Storey-

Taking baby steps. That's what baby's have to do when they want to walk. Actually the process goes crawl, walk(baby steps first), run.

In case you haven't noticed, nothing huge happens instantly. It's like the old line.. 'there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs'. It may appear that a success story happened over night, but trust me.. behind the scenes were a ton of hard work, perspiration, previous failures, trial and error and so on. Which brings us full circle. It all starts with the baby steps.

Do the small things first, do them well, and this will give you confidence to tackle the bigger things. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

The very fact that you are trying to come up with a reason to do something(also called "justifying")should tell you to NOT do it. Reasons for going ahead should either be present and be sound, or the action should be passed on.
