How to DO things...

Blog quote #920...
"Whatever you do, you should do it with feeling." -Yogi Berra-

Ironically, many of Yogi Berra's famous quotes had to deal with aloofness( ex:'When you come to the fork in the road, take it.'). This time, the great Yankee delivers a simple message-- Whatever you do, get into it fully. Don't just go through the motions.

We agree wholeheartedly. How about you?

Excellent Teaching Tip...

Blog quote #919...
"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." -Mark Van Doren-

All great teachers know this. Help kids actively find out on their own, with a bit of help from yourself.

Kind of like the old adage- 'Catch a man a fish feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for life.' Hmm...

On Copying Others...

Blog quote #917 & 918...
"It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." -Herman Melville-

"Be yourself, everyone else is taken." -unknown-

These two quotes complement each other nicely. The world needs more originals and less imitators, copiers, and duplicators. Every single one of us was born with our own gifts, talents, and blessings.

All humans should encourage each other with positive vibes to TRY MORE THINGS with less emphasis on negativity and criticism if things don't go perfect. Experiment, try, stretch, grow.

Every single human has so much unused potential inside them, that needs to be tapped more often. Open it up..

The TWO ways to be RICH...

Blog quote #916...
"There are two ways to be rich: one is by acquiring much, and the other is by desiring little." - Jackie French Killer-

I wonder if we asked 100 people, how many would choose the high flying, acquisition route, and how many would choose the simple more peaceful way?

A second question to ponder...which is more satisfying to the soul?
A third inquiry is wondering if the answer changes, as we get older and wiser in life?

I certainly know what my heart tells me. How about you?
Hmm...

We need a Change of Definition-- for the word Failure...

Blog quote #915...
"The current definition of failure should be changed to 'temporary setback.' Then, everybody would stop getting so upset." - Perry Noun-

Mr Noun makes a good point here. We can add to upset, these words as well...crushed, depressed, disappointed, and dismayed. Even throw in loss of hope in some cases.

On the contrary, if we take his suggestion, and change the definition--a temporary setback sounds somewhat motivating, doesn't it? Hmm...a decent idea here!

Making a SPLASH!

Blog quote #914...
"Life is a puddle. Make a splash." -Kevin and Janet Ferris, mother and son-

And preferably a big splash! As most of you faithful  S-T readers are well aware by now, we are huge proponents of LIVING LIFE.

Do what you can- to get the most out of each and every day. Stay engaged. Look for ways to make an impact. Do something remarkable. Make a difference. Stand out from the crowd. Provide excellence. For the lack of a better word- just MATTER. And while you are at it---CARE.

The batteries to the watch of life, never go dead. The sands keep sifting through the hourglass. Time keeps marching reliably forward. And so should we!  Onward, all!

Here, is what to EXPECT...

Blog quote #913...
"Truly nothing is to be expected, but the unexpected." -Alice James-

What an accurate summation of -- LIFE!
And who doesn't enjoy a great oxymoron, every now and then?

Saying the same thing; three, three, three times.

Blog quote #912...
"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." -Stephen Covey-

What? Was Covey a little tipsy when this 'brilliant' statement came out of his mouth?

Upon further review and a bit of  thought...this statement is quite clever. Here is how we understood this repetitive, yet coy comment:

"The main thing( it is most important), is to keep the main thing(what it is that you desire most), the main thing(first and foremost, at all times)."

What about how you interpreted this?

The reason why-we must DO...

Blog quote #911...
"Actions speak louder than words, but not nearly as often." -Mark Twain-

Key words here- 'not nearly as often.' Less chatter and more action please.

As every person who knows how to speak the English language knows--talk is CHEAP. More DO and less HULLABALOO!

The most important thing-- to CARE!

Blog quote #909...
"The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach for the heart is wise." -Maya Angelou-

When you focus on people versus things, the difference and the impact is MONUMENTAL. The heart is where the main stage is at. Just CARE more. Good to remember, for any circumstance you face.

More PAT'S's on the back, please

Blog quote #908...
"The best thing to do behind a friend's back, is to pat it." -Ruth Brillhart-

We almost thought the author of this statement was Ruth Brilliant. What a tremendous statement.

More compliments and less critiquing, please. And especially, fewer criticisms that are behind someone's back, not allowing them to either hear  or address them properly. Genius statement, Miss Brillhart!

What Beethoven, Michaelangelo, and Shakespeare had in common...

Blog quote #907...
"If a person sweeps streets for a living he should sweep them as Michaelangelo painted, as Beethoven composed music, as Shakespeare wrote his plays." -Martin Luther King Jr.-

Whatever you do, give it your all. Put your heart and soul into it and give it your very best. Paint your own masterpiece with whatever your current occupation is.

Be fully present in your work, and remain that way faithfully, until you decide to take up other work. People will be very pleased with your efforts, and you will as well.

Funny Golf Humor...

Blog quote #906...
"I know I'm getting better at golf because I am hitting fewer spectators." -Gerald Ford-

Late night golf and presidential humor, all in one!

On a side note, did you ever see how close the spectators get to the pro golfers?  Are they crazy? Those guys miss shots too. And in the pro-ams, when the Bill Murray's and Kevin Costner's play, fans...pleaseeee move back!   EESSHH!!

The Value of someone STEALING your work...

Blog quote #905...
"Don't worry about people stealing your work. Worry about the day they stop attempting to." -Jeffrey Zelman-

Quite an eye opening quote. At first blush we immediately think..."What? I don't want anyone stealing my work." And that might be very accurate. Zelman's point is, it's quite a compliment that someone wants to hawk it. The day your work stops being worth someone wanting to imitate, copy, or duplicate, then that's the day it's not worth much at all.

Keep doing your best to impact the world. Change it for the better. Exceed people's expectations. Do work that matters. Care about others, and let that care reflect in your work. In fact, care so much...that people, say "Wow, that's good. I wonder if I can duplicate something like that."( i.e copy that.)

Reason #127 to steer from Negative people...

Blog quote #902...

A case for always Acting Professional...

Blog quote #901...
"I thought he acted like the south end of a northbound mule." - Paul Azinger, on Tiger Woods throwing and kicking clubs at the Masters-

Since we are in Masters week thought this was an interesting way to state an observation of poor behavior.

Just another reminder to do your best to act professionally. You never know who's watching. In this case, being one of the most popular golf tournaments ever-- likely the whole world!

The true fact, about TODAY

Blog quote #900...
"Nothing is worth more than this day." - Goethe-

Breaking this statement down in its simplest form... Yesterday is in the books. Tomorrow, as we all know, is not guaranteed to anyone. Thus by process of elimination, today is all we have.

Stay present. Stay focused. Enjoy and make the best of it. Love people Serve people. Be kind and pleasant, and make it an incredible, and memorable day.

You can run but you can't hide...from TROUBLE

Blog quote #899...
"You can't run away from trouble. There ain't no place that far." - Uncle Remus-

Remus was correct. You can run but you can't hide from trouble. It's everywhere. So, best you face that fact and deal with it. And while you're at it, take it head on and go through the trouble versus dodging, deflecting, or running away from the trouble.

Best news is once you unmask and disassemble the trouble, you come away smarter, stronger, and better prepared to meet the next challenge. It's a confidence thing that grows. In fact you may even find a time when you are saying "Bring it on." Get after it!

The critical importance of INTEGRITY....

Blog quote #898...
"The strength of a nation is derived from the integrity of its homes." - Confucius-

We think this makes a a lot of sense. For in life relationships, partnerships, friendships, associates and everything else all rotate around one central theme-integrity.

Trust could be substituted, but either way, without integrity/trust, there isn't much there that will stand for long.

Getting a PHD, on 'failure...'

Blog quote #896 & 897
"Make failure your teacher, not your undertaker." -Zig Ziglar-
"We get very little wisdom from success." -William Saroyan-

Today a 2- fer on Failure and Success.
Zig reminds us not to let failure be the death of us, but simply learn from it's lessons. There is always a message to be received from a letdown or disappointment. Look for that needle in the haystack.
Similarly, Saroyan  suggests that when we win, we don't always learn much, versus when we go down in  defeat or failure--we look a bit harder at the films. We think a tad longer what we could have done different. We practice new/different things that might spur on a more positive outcome, next time.
So, both scholars here are telling us to utilize a temporary setback as just that-temporary-and to be certain to get an education from it. Class in session...

The Time is NOW- to get Moving!

Blog quote #895...
"Get out there and give real help! Get out there and love! Get out there and testify! Get out there and create whatever you can to inspire people- to claim their divine being and origin. This is what has to be done now. There is no time. There has never been any time for dallying and being depressed." - Mother Teresa-

Four solid tips to get moving. A nice call to urgency, by the great one- Mother Teresa.

A nice Sunday tip from the Swami.
Not sure if it is THEE secret to success, but if put into practice...will certainly help. It is an excellent habit to form. If you decide to do something, dive in good and deep.

Another famous saying that agrees with the Swami is 'Anything worth doing, is worth doing well.' Get after it!

Always walk Forward, not in Reverse...

Blog quote #892...
"I'm a slow walker, but I never walk backward." - Abraham Lincoln-

Honest Abe...what did he mean by this?

We think he was saying,  as long as you make progress, that's a winner. Keep moving forward, regardless of pace; as long as you continue to do so you are gaining on something.

As the turtle often reminds us-- Slow and steady wins the race.  Keep moving, keep doing. In the end, you'll be stunned, just how far you've come.

One of Life's Great Rules...

Blog quote #891...
"One of life's great rules is this: The more you give, the more you get." - William H Danforth-

We're not sure WHY this is, as we didn't set up the universe of  life rules or laws of physics. The reality is, that this seems to ring truer and truer the longer we live on this planet.

So...do what you choose to with this advice from Mr Danforth. Our suggestion--do more giving! Not because you'll get more, but because it flat out feels great to give! The 'getting' is just cherries on top that aren't even necessary, but a pleasant extra.

Don't be AFRAID of this...

Blog quote #890...
"Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it." - C.Joy Bell-

I love it. Fear isn't there to scare you, but basically to remind you on the importance or credence of something. That it's worthy of paying close attention.

A nice interpretation of that  'intimidating' word. Puts a better, more refreshing perspective now, doesn't it?
