Quote #84, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #84....

"The biggest problem with communication is the assumption that it has taken place."

-George Bernard Shaw-

Did you ever ask for directions for someplace, and end up lost? Ever finish a project at work and go in excitedly to show the boss, only to find out its nothing like what he/she was looking for?How about a discussion with your spouse that got mixed signals, thus ending up in an argument?

Its called communication. It's probably one of the most important things we can try to improve on. Listening, a part of communicating, is extremely difficult to be good at. Arguably, it may be more important than anything else we try TO DO. How about interpreting? We may listen properly but interpret it totally different, and good communication has not occurred. Verification is a third part of communicaton. "So if I heard you correct, you meant blah blah blah... "

We've only scratched the surface, but hope we properly communicated a few things to get your noggin thinking about better message delivery( communication).

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #83, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #83....

"Swallowing angry words is much beter than having to eat them."

-Honor Books Inc.-

Wait a minute. Isn't this quote redundant? Swallowing and eating go hand in hand, don't they?

The quote is actually a funny play on words. Ironically, I took this quote to say.. "Don't SAY angry words and statements". Did your mom tell you more than once, as did mine, to "Bite Your Tongue"? And how about.. "If you dont have something nice to say, don't say it at all?" Thank you Mom, for that exemplary piece of wisdom.

Many times when we spout off and say things we really didn't want to say, we "eat them" later. Other times in anger, HOW we say things doesn't come out properly either, causing more unwanted meals of literature. Sometimes, when frustrated, the old advice to count to 20 before speaking is prudent counsel. It may just save us from another meal of words we didnt want to eat?

Quote #82, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #82....

"When I first open my eyes upon the morning meadows and look out upon the beautiful world, I thank God I'm alive."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson-

When I first read this, the proverbial 'light bulb' went off. WOW! I have read hundreds of different quotes and more than several books on the subject of Gratitude. None however, have smacked me in the face as this one did.

Did you ever say to yourself.. 'When I go to bed at night and close my eyes, what guarantee do I have that my eyes will open in the morning'? It's similar to getting your wisdom teeth pulled and you get a shot of anesthesia. When you sign that consent form, the thought HAS to cross your mind, that you may never wake up from the surgery.

The one thing we all can be fairly certain of, is the sun rising in the morning. The question is... will YOU and I be rising with it? After reading Emerson's quote, I have a whole new outlook and attitude towards gratitude. How about you?

Quote #81, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #81....

"It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor."

-Seneca-

I believe what Seneca is getting at has to do with being content with what one has. Ever meet someone who is never satisfied no matter what they have or how much they have? It's never 'good' enough. It's never just plain 'enough'. They enjoy it for about 24 hours, and then they grow bored.

I once heard a statement: show me someone who is bored and I'll show you a boring person. We make our own fun. We create our own contentment and satisfaction.

If we focus on the abundance of things that we DO possess, we won't be so desireous of the things we don t have. Its quite surprising just how much we all have , if we care to add it all up.

Quotes #75-80, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #75-80....

"You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do."

-Henry Ford-

Today is a special treat. A 5 for 1 quote :)

Larry the Cable Guy once said
"Get Errrr Dunnnnn."
Nike's famous jingle is "Just Do It."
Toby Keith's famed song is
"A little less talk, and a lot more action."
The Famed T.A Smith( hehe)said
"Talk is cheap. Inaction can be is extremely expensive."

FDR was quoted "If it fails, admit it frankly, and try another, but above all..try something."

I believe the message from Mr Ford is that you have to get into action if you want to build a reputation. Talk is conversation, but it's not going to get the work done. Dive in while the water's still warm........

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #74....

"I desire to so conduct my affairs of this administration that if, in the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall have at least one friend left--and that friend shall be down inside me."

-Abraham Lincoln-

Oh how I long for anyone in politics that could follow the words of honest Abe. Boy, do we need some people in government with some morals and character.

The bottom line of Lincoln's quote is..... in the end, you don't have to answer to your mom or dad or best friend or coach or anyone else for that matter. However, there's one person who you cannot elude, and that is.... yourself.

There is a truly superb poem called 'The Man in the Glass' which is worth your time to read. I will post on Smile-Therapy.com within the week.

How did you take Lincoln's message?

Quote #73, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #73....

"Never give a party if you will be the most interesting person there."

-Mickey Friedman-

Ok....... Here's one I need your interpretation of. I took it as a parallel to the wisdom of "don't be afraid to hire people that are better and smarter than you". In this case of throwing a bash, be sure to invite people that are more interesting, more fun, more exciting than you. Otherwise, it won't be much of a party.

Perhaps Friedman meant that you have no business giving a party if you think YOU are so interesting and there aren't others you find as fascinating as you? Personally when I throw a party, I invite the funnest, craziest, people that I know. ? Why not? Liven things up a bit..

Of course there is always the comment...never go to a party without "bringing a mini party with yourself". OK, my comments are scattered all over the place. Your turn.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #72....

"The difficult we do immediately. The impossible takes a little longer."

-U.S Army Corps of Engineers-

Wait a minute.. this doesn't make sense does it? I thought if it was impossible, it couldn't be done?

Ooh perhaps the Army is using a sense of humor here and sending a message here that MOST things are NOT impossible. They just might seem it at first. I believe there was another quote(perhaps I used it at the Think Tank) that "things are only impossible until they are not".

Great message here from the Army. Yes, there truly are a few things that are impossible. You cannot jump off a 200 story building and survive. However, you can climb Mount Everest, you can fly to the moon, and you can eat 49 Fluffernutters, all in one sitting. Once thought impossible.... those have already been done.

Anything you thought once impossible, that has since been done?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #71....

"Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself."

-A. H. Weiler-

Can you say armchair quarterback? Isn't it easy to tell others what to do, how to do it, what they should have done, blah blah blah. Especially when you have already seen the outcome.

How about when others tell you... "Go ahead. Its easy. You can do it." Thinking of it reminds me of my youth when my buddies wanted me to jump off the cliff into the water... first of course.

One of the many life lessons I've learned is EVERYTHING has more to it than meets the eye. As an example, I used to be in the race horse business. The casual bettor at the local racetrack may think the horses just eat, workout and get put in the box to race every week. They'd be amazed all that goes into this equine sport, from how to buy and sell, to equipment, to classifying the horse, to dealing with sickness, and on and on. Again, no matter how simplified something looks on the outside surface, be certain its much more complex 'under the hood'.

If things WERE so easy, perhaps the advice that others were so freely and confidently giving wouldn't be needed?

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #70, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #70....

"There is a final moment of unyielding patience which, in angling, so often makes the difference between fish and no fish."

-Sparse Grey Hackle-

Disclaimer: I am NOT a fisherman. Actually, once on a deep sea fishing trek in Myrtle Beach, I may have caught the smallest fish in the history of that fishing boat company's career. 1.5 inches, no exaggeration.

Back to PATIENCE. How about that fisherman who is fishing for 15-30-45 minutes. 1 hour- 2 hrs- 3 hrs, and he finally gets a "bite". If he tugs too hard, too fast, the fish that he's been waiting on all day, may have darted away due to a lack of patience and a quick jolt of the wrist.

In life, patience is an amazingly critical quality to have in any succesful venture. You've heard of the overnight success? Usually takes place in 5-10 even 20 years. Patience. How about the basketball star, Michael Jordan? Think he just became the games best by having talent and putting in a 40 hour basketball work week? NOT. Much perseverence and patience for Mr Jordan to accomplish what he has.

Colonel Sanders executed a bit of patience in hearing 1009 no's before any restaurant agreed to sell his now famous Kentucky Fried Chicken. One Thousand Nine No's, and this, at the age of 65. Imagine YOU hearing 1009 no's? Perhaps Mama was right when she told us patience really is a virtue?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #69....

"People will accrept your ideas much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first."

-David Comins-

How come something is an excellent idea, or it's 'more believable' if it comes from a well known source? Aren't we all capable of coming up with ideas just as Franklin, Jefferson or Socrates could?

It reminds me of the so called 'experts'. Did you ever go to a conference and they tell you so and so is coming in from, say, Lexingtom Kentucky to speak? OOhhh! And they are also bringing in so and so from Billings, Montana. Doesn't it sound impressive? Yet the local successful business man who is speaking doesn't get the blood flowing quite so much. Is it the mystique of the unknown? Perhaps its the coolness of someone coming in from another place not near us?

So., next time you have something important to tell someone, say that you heard it from some famous person from Inglewood, California. They might just believe you!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #68....

"Nothing in fine print is ever good news."

-Andy Rooney-

Did you ever wonder why its called fine print? I have. And, did you ever wonder why is it so small? Shouldn't they have a warning for us? Small print included; be sure to have a magnifying glass handy.

If the print WAS SO FINE to read, as in, well, great, excellent, wouldn't they make it L A R G E R ? Why don't they just call it 'crappy' print? Ok, enough of the poor imitation of Andy Rooney.

Got to thinking though , is there any fine print that is good news out there? Perhaps there is some literature that the author is trying to keep at a one or two page max, and had to go to smaller lettters to make it fit. I'm not sure. Maybe Mr Rooney has a point here and all fine print IS bad news? Do you know any different?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #67....

"Discovery consists of seeing what everyone has seen, and thinking what nobody has thought."

-Albert Szent Gyorgyi-

Aahh, the beauty of life. The mind is so complex that 47 people could look at something and see it different, visualize it different, interpret it different. Isn't that what makes the world go round? People's different toughts, views and opinions and WHY they think what they think. Without this gift of variety, we'd all be a bunch of robots.

With Gyorgyi's quote, not everyone will agree with your thoughts and your vision of what can be. It's called 'out of the box' thinking. Some will laugh, others call you crazy, and still others may label you foolish. However, who says THEY are right? If you see something.. roll with it. If everyone 'saw it', perhaps there wouldn't be much of a 'discovery'?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #66....

"The purpose of life is to fight maturity."

-Dick Werthimer-

Anyone ever tell you to "grow up"? "Stop acting so immature"? Quit screwing around and get serious."

Since when did we get so serious? Where is the life rule that when we get out of teenager-land, we can't have any more fun? It's like someone turns off the FUN switch.

Per some research on the internet, the average kid laughs 300 times a day. By the time you hit 40, its about 14 laughs( yes fourteen). Anyone know WHY?

I like Werthimer's quote because I try to do exactly what he says. I fight maturity and I'm proud of that. I don't ever want to really grow up. I always want to be full of fun, laughter, and play. That doesn't mean I cannot be a responsible, wage earning, good standing adult. Difference is.... I think we all can absolutely do both. In fact, I was laughing writing this silly blog up.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #65....

"Time invested in improving ourselves cuts down on time wasted disapproving of others."

-author unknown-

Wow. This smacks you right in the face. Tough to argue with though, isn't it?

Reminds me of a quote I once heard.... 'If we all swept in front of our own porch, my how much cleaner the world would be'. The people that are so worried about others and are constantly complaining, most likely have some things that could be improved on themselves. Makes one wonder what the world would be like if we all really did live in the proverbial 'glass house'?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #64....

"There will be a time when loud mouthed, incompetent people seem to be getting the best of you. When that happens, you only have to be patient and wait for them to self destruct. It never fails."

-Richard Rybolt-

Do you realize what the one, single , most important word is in this whole quote? Its one of the keys to success in life.

It's Patient. This quote is so dead on, it's amazing. If I've seen this come true once in my life, I've seen it 79 times. The biggest challenge WHEN it occurs, is to be the bigger person, and not roll around in the mud like a gleeful dog. After all, you knew, they were incompetent. You knew they'd self destruct. One might almost feel sorry for them? Well , maybe not :)

Can anyone out there relate? Can everyone relate?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #63....

"Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut."

-Ernest Hemmingway-

I saw this on a cool little T-shirt website called AddedInk.com. What a great saying!

I enjoyed it for a couple of reasons. First, it's a good, solid, make-sense statement to say. Second, I've found that
you learn much about the character of a person that DOES keep his/her word when he/she has had a few.

In life, I always try to keep my word no matter what. Two reasons: First, Why say something you don t mean? Peer pressure? Easier to 'BS' someone that to tell them what you really feel? You don't want to hurt their feelings, or be negative? To me, none of those hold any water. Mom always used to say.. "You can say anything you want to someone, as long as you say it in a polite manner."

Second and of EXTREME IMPORTANCE, to me; your word is all you have. If your word, your handshake, means NOTHING.... does anything else really matter?
So....next time you are cocktailing it up.. remember Hemmingway's quote.

A final comment to keep in mind "Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if it kept its mouth shut".

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #62....

"Never argue with a fool. Someone watching may not be able to tell the difference."

-unknown-

I found this a bit comical. The more I thought about it the more it made sense though.

Why have an arguement with someone that doesn't want to listen, already has an agenda, or isn't going to change their opinion? No matter what the conversation, nothing good will come out of it. A dead end street, with no where to turn around.

It's best to try to recognize these situatuions, and try not to"go there". Lively discussions with open minded people that have something to contribute, AND are then willing to LISTEN to your thoughts, are great. Arguements with fools are pointless. Avoid them when and wherever possible if you can.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #61....

"The word "Angel " simply means 'messenger'. If angels are messengers, then someone, somewhere, must be sending a message."

-Dan Schaeffer-

Wow....never thought of something like this. But I am a firm believer that angels DO exist, especially the Guardian Angel types.

For me, there have simply been too many examples. I've dozed off while driving to just wake up at the perfect time right before trouble hits. I've bumped into the right person, to solve a major issue, just when exactly needed. I've thought of someone that I haven't thought of in decades, and don't they call me that day? I've changed decisions at the last second, for no explainable reason, and it's turned out to be extremely meaningful. Some say these are coincidences? Not me. I firmly believe angels are out there, and doing some mighty good things.

Do you get any 'messages' (ie signals, gut instincts, or whatever you want to call them) from out of the blue, pointing you in some direction? Ever wonder where they are coming from? HMMMM

"People who invite trouble always complain when it accepts."

-Lane Olinghouse-

I hate to agree with Lane here, but I think this is more true than not.

And why is this? Are the people who are the complainers pushing the envelope? Do they just not 'get it' ? Is it the old deal that negativity attracts negativity and trouble. Just plain poor decision making? I'm baffled, but I am in agreeance with Lane. How about you?

Here goes blog quote #59....

"Only two things are infinite... the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not so sure about the former."

-Albert Einstein-

Pretty ironic words coming from one of the most creative and intelligent thinkers of the last 200 years. Once again, the ever popular "tension of opposites" rears its head, yet again. We can be such astonishingly smart creatures. Other times we really do some things worthy of the 'Dunce Cap'.

As a kid, I once walked over an entire car, windshield and all. Yes, of course it cracked, or I wouldn't be sharing the story. To this day, I still have no idea WHY I did that. Those darn lacrosse balls!

Here goes blog quote #58....

"The greatest of faults, I should say, is to be conscious of none."

-Thomas Carlyle-

Do you know anyone who thinks they are perfect? Never can admit when they are wrong? Always have to get their point of view across and well known?

Why are these people like this? My guess is the thing called E- G- O. I never understood the ego deal. We are all human. We make mistakes. SO WHAT. I've made 1200 of them so far in my lifetime and will probable make another 900-1900 before I die. BIG DEAL. You learn from it. You apologize to anyone who may have been hurt. And you move on.

What is so bad, about having faults? As long as we recognize them and try to improve on them.. isn't that part of being a creature on this planet?

As a former co-worker of mine used to say.. "Get over yourself". Having faults is 'OK'. Not acknowledgeing them isn't.

"In prosperity, you may count on many friends. If the sky becomes overcast, you will be alone."
-Latin Proverb-

My father once told me, if I have 3 really good friends in life, I will be extremely lucky. Acquaintences are a dime a dozen. Good friends are as rare as a 30 second cooked steak.

Tracy Lawrence of the country world has a song called 'Find Out Who Your Friends Are'. The lyrics say it all... Everybody wants to slap your back , wants to shake your hand, when your up on top of that mountain. But let one of those rocks give way, then you slide back down, look up and see who's around then.
You find out who your friends are. Somebody's gonna drop everything. Run out and crank up their car, hit the gas, get there fast. Never stop to think 'whats in it for me?', or 'its way too far'. They just show up with their big ol' heart. You find out who your friends are.

I guess its a bit sad that good friends are so hard to find, but on the other hand, perhaps thats what makes 'em so special. Whats your take on good Friends?

That's my view.....WHAT SAY YOU?

Quote #56, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #56....

"Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A Smile. A word of optimism and hope. And you can do it when things are tough."

-Richard DeVos-

DeVos is suggesting that sometimes people just need a little LIFT. It can come in many forms such as a compliment, a nice gesture, a thank you, or even a simple hello. You never know what demons others are battling and /or where someone 'is' in their life. At that very moment even the slightest bit of encouragement could make more difference to that person than you'll ever imagine.

Is there someone you know that can use a bit of 'positivity' from you? Call them up, shoot 'em an email.. heaven forbid you actually throw a letter in the mail the old fashioned way. Give it a try and I'll bet you, out of it..not one, but TWO people will feel better.

An old saying .. it's impossible to give some kindness without getting some of the good perfume on yourself. Share some positive perfume today.

That's my view.....WHAT SAY YOU?
