Quote #135, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #135....

"Listen to the MUSN'TS child, listen to the DON'TS, listen to the SHOULDN'TS, the IMPOSSIBLE'S, the WON'TS. Listen to the NEVER HAVES, then listen close to me---anything can happen child, ANYTHING can be.

-Shel Silverstein-

For all the doomsayers in the world.. take that! To all the negative nellies out there , read this and weep.

If someone says you can't do something, that you THINK you can do.. they better have a darn good reason why THEY THINK you can't. Here's why..Ive found, if you do your homework, preperation, and you have passion and excitement, coupled with some true BELIEF .. you can accomplish darn near ANYTHING you want.

Mom used to say.. "where there's a will, there's a way". At 9 years old, I didn't truly understand her. I now know, crystal clear, exactly what she meant.

Quote #134, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #134....

"Start every day with a smile, and get it over with.
-W.C.Fields-

I love this quote. It's got wit. It's almost a tongue twister. It's got some sarcasm in it, while still hammering the point home.

The point is...Smile. Today! Why the heck not?

After you satisfy the request, you can go about your own miserable old self...... or maybe not. The smile could turn the tide, to the bright side.

Quote #133, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #133....

"Some people spend so much time logged onto their computer, that they are more at risk of getting a computer virus than a real one."
-Anonymous-

Ever hear of the word MODERATION? Everything in moderation is good; even moderation. Excess of anything usually leads to bad things such as boredom, or mistakes, or addiction, or complacency, etc etc.

At Smile-Therapy, because of what I do, I'm online more than I'd like to be. But let's take this quote further than the word computer. Substitute Ipod, or cellphone or blackberry in place of 'computer'. Some people literally can't go 14 minutes without these devices. Again moderation, in everything is suggested. Beware of technological gadgets controling your world.

Quote #132, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #132....

"If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good."
-Dr. Seuss-

So, I got all excited about Dr. Seuss, and I had to find some of his words to the wise. Here is my interpretation of this quote.

Have you tried anything new lately? When I say new, I'm talking something you have never done before?

If not.. why not? Perhaps it's time to try something new. Stretch. Get out of your comfort zone.

You never know what you may be missing out on until you try something. Probably 80% of the time, your glad that you tried something new(anyone want to comment on my 80% guess?).

Live a little. As my friend Greg P says.. "Your dead a long , long time."

Quote #131, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #131....

"Paper and ink are all but trash, if I cannot find the thought that the writer did think."
-Walter Smith-

Almost sounds Dr Seuss-ish doesn't it? As I was looking up quotes on trash for another article I was writing, I stumbled across this one.

It made me ask myself.. how well am I communicating when I'm writing? Are you readers able to figure out the points I am trying to get across? Do you really get the gist of what I'm trying to convey to you.

Part of the fun of the Think Tank is that each of us can interpret a quote in a very different way. I hope that at least after you read the quote and my comments.. you know how I interpreted it.Im doing my best to communicate exactly what I'm thinking to your reading minds. Hope I'm doing well.....

Quote #130, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #130....

"It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn't."
- President Martin Van Buren-

This quote parallels the comment.. 'if you don t have the time to do a job right, when will you find the time to do a job over?' Both statements make a very good point.

What do you suppose is the main reason WHY the job isn't done right in the first place? Is it laziness? Is it just that the job was hurried? Potential incompetence? Other?

Whatever the reason.. Van Buren is pretty sure that in most cases there will be 'some explaining' to do. On top of that, its likely, not alot of good can come out of the improperly done task.
Message:: Do it right, and on the FIRST TIME.

Quote #129, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #129....

"Get good counsel before you begin: and when you have decided, act promptly."
- Sallust, Catilina-

Look closely. There is actually 3 tips in this one quote. Get good counsel. Decide. Act. Pretty good stuff for such a brief quote.
We've all heard..'Haste makes waste'. We ve also seen that inaction can be a deadly killer.

So.....Do your homework. Make sure you are studying with capable, smart people. Be prepared, boy scout style. Then, pull the trigger, jump in, and get moving. Each of the steps are of equal importance, including the last one, of taking action.

Quote #128, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #128....

"The better I get, the more I realize how much better I can get."
- Martina Navratilova, former #1 tennis player-

Isn't it incredible that the number ONE tennis player in the world.. is constantly trying to get better? Maybe that's why she is the best on the planet at what she does. It's the old.. what comes first, the chicken or the egg?

Do you think Wayne Gretzky still practices hard? Is Jeff Gordon constantly trying new things to improve his skills? How about football great Peyton Manning? Think anyone outworks him?

There is an old saying that we use about 5% of our brains and about 7% of our potential. Imagine... if we are only using 7% out of 100% then 93 % is going UNTAPPED !

The point is, no matter who you are, or what you are doing, there is plenty of room for improvement for all of us. The human brain and body are capable of so much more that most of us will ever push to find out. If all these world class athletes can strive to get better.. what about us?

Quote #127, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #127....

"Ninety-nine percent of the failures, come from people who have the habit of making excuses."
-George Washington Carver-

99%.. wow, that's a pretty high percentage. Who knows if Carver was right, but it sounds like it makes sense.

What is failure? Usually its pinned to giving up. And what's the first thing people do when they give up? Look for justification of not getting it done. Look to blame someone or something why it didn't happen. Look for reasons (i.e excuses) for not getting the task completed.

Excuses, in my opinion, 99% of the time are copouts. As my dad taught me as a kid.. Finish What You Start. It's pretty solid advice to use all through life.

Quote #126, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #126....

"If you must tell me your opinions, tell me what you believe in. I have plenty of doubts on my own."

-Johann Goeth-

Ok, need your help on this one.. it can be interpreted many ways. I'm not even sure that what I think Goeth is saying is what I think? Comments please!

I took this as saying.. don't just criticize my thoughts/ ideas. Tell me what you think; what you believe in as to be right. It's like the person that always complains about the problems but never has any solutions. Ok to discuss the challenges and what could be different.. but how about a few ideas of your own to fix the issue at hand ?

In other words, if you must tell me what you think, don't just voice your vocals to complain or bitch. Talk to share ideas, discuss potential solutions, etc.

So... how'd you interpret this quote?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #125....

"Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit--- and man is his own gardener."
-James Allen-

Here's an idea. Print this off and write on it, 2 columns, 'good' and 'bad'. Try to keep track of what's going on in that noggin of yours for 10 minutes, an hour, a full day. I say TRY because it is much more difficult than you can imaging. In a single day, the mind probably has close to 2417 thoughts (that's a total guess). So... What are YOU Thinking?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #124....

"For want of a nail the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe the horse was lost; and for want of a horse the rider was lost; being overtaken and slain by the enemy, all for want of care about a horseshoe nail."
-Franklin, Poor Richards Almanac-

A very powerful, yet painful lesson in paying attention to the little details.

They say, the devil is in the details. A very poor place to get careless.

Quote #123, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #123....

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
-Thomas Edison-

As good as this quote is, it saddens me. If only people would have a little faith and trust and hang in there longer than they do.

I spoke recently with my friend Susan, at a Chamber of Commerce. We discussed how many of the first year, new businesses did not renew their membership and folded their tent's. After only a year! I believe people either want or expect instant gratification.. and in reality.. many business ideas would succeed, if given the proper time. New grass takes time to grow, corn takes time to harvest. Babies grow into kids, then teenagers, then young adults, then adults.

Business owners.. give yourself time to succeed and keep plugging. If you have the passion and the patience and some hard work.. chances are you' ll make it. HOW BIG?..... is usually up to one thing, YOU!

Thats my view... What Say You?

Quote #122, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?Here goes blog quote #122....

"It can be dangerous to weaken the strong in our attempts to strengthen the weak."
-Jim Rohn-

On the aftermath of Tax Day and all the TEA Parties that took place yesterday, I thought this was a timely quote by Mr Rohn.

Our leaders in Congress/ Senate and Washington have to be careful here not to overtax the business leaders and entrepreneurs who are creating jobs, creating products, services and contributing a plethora of fresh ideas. I may also add that Rohn is probably referring to the heart and soul of America as well. The everyday citizens working hard to make a living, and provide for their families. People will only pay so much before the incentive for work will start to diminish, and diminish RAPIDLY.

We've all heard the line don't bite the hand that feeds you. Even the famous Donald Trump has stated that if taxes get raised even higher in his state, he'll be forced to move elsewhere. There is a hand, that, with all his business and transactions and people he employs.. you don't want going "elsewhere".

Finally, a reminder of the old proverb..Sheep get sheared, pigs get slaughtered.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #121....

"Unless you know where you are going, any road will take you there."
-Vincent Ferrari-

HMMM. Here is my question.. Where is "there"?
Is "there" where you want to go? Is "there".. anywhere?

I believe Ferrari's point is to have a destination. Where do you want to go/ be? What is the game plan in your mind? What is your vision of where you want to be? This could be as simple as going out to dinner or it could be as grand as where you want your life occupation to end up in 9 years.

Were you aware that most things in life happen at least twice? First, in your mind, then the plan of action is put into place. So, do you know where you are going.. today, this week, this year? Best to take Ferrari's tip, and figure out, in your mind, where it is that you want to go.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #120....

"To tell whether an action is right or wrong, ask what would happen if everyone did it."

-Anna Quindlen-

Pretty solid advice here by Anna. It follows along similar paths and the famous 'Golden Rule'. You know.... the 'Do unto others as you'd like them to do unto you' rule. Lets try it out......

Should I litter?
Should I gossip?
What about excessively borrowing on credit cards?
Sharing a compliment?
What about being as honest as I can with others?
Should I follow through on my word?

What would happen if everyone did the same on all these questions? Jeez, when put in these terms, it seems like a no brainer, doesn't it?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #119....

"If you want your dreams to come true, don't oversleep."
-American Proverb-

Get up. Get moving.

A good friend of mine used to tell me:: There will be plenty of time to sleep when we are dead. Interesting thought to sleep on (no pun intended).

Well, we've heard all the lines.. The early bird gets the worm. The early worm gets the fish. Early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise. Even the Army had a slogan that they get more done before 9 am then most people get done all day.

Personaly I like to pack in as much in a day as I can since we are only on this planet a short time. And there is so much to do, learn and see. Open those eyes, get those toes on the ground, and get the day rolling!!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #118....

"Let's meet at my house Sunday, before the game(Masters)."
-Billboard from God-

Being a good Catholic and that it's Easter weekend, I thought this was as good as any post. Pretty creative huh?

Not sure if you've seen them but there was a billboard campaign that had a series of these. Some of others I enjoyed were::

>>Keep using my name in vain and I'll make rush hour last even longer.
>>Need directions?
>>Loved the wedding, invite me to the marriage.

>> Im also making a list, and checking it twice.

No question God has a good sense of humor( in my mind at least). That's why life is so funny.. just keeps throwing curve balls at you.. Did you ever notice just when you think you have something mastered, and sadly, you find out.. You don't? You have to laugh!
Thus the strong reason WE ALL need a sense of humor as well. Happy Easter/ Passover Weekend all!

Going from the couch to the rocker? Love the humor and the double meaning..those are the best quotes.

Well it's Good Friday and Passover/ Easter weekend. The Masters, golf's most cherished prize, is on the line, and here in the Eastern United States, spring is just sprouting up with warming temperatures.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #116....

"If you keep stuffing the pipeline, over and over, I don't know when, or where or how, but there is one thing I can promise. Eventually, sooner or later, it will start coming out the other end of the pipeline( in the form of business). Stuff stuff stuff, and be ready to reap your reward."

-Dirk Oudemool-

Dirk is basically saying that the key to as much business as you want is to keep working it, keep 'stuffing the pipeline' with entries. Keep prospecting 'til you are blue in the face, and it will come back in a big way at some point.

Guru marketer Seth Godin calls it the drip, drip, drip factor. Keep dripping on people , stay in their face, and sooner or later they'll come around. Others still, call it "farming". If you plant enough seeds, and water them properly... good things will sprout up( ie business). NOW YOU KNOW the secret to growing your business. Stuff, stuff, stuff that pipeline.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?Here goes blog quote #115....

"Adversity introduces a man to himself."
-Anonymous-

Wow...6 POWERFUL words. And in such brevity.

Ever hear of the line.. 'Let's see what this man's made of '? How about 'Time to see what she's got'? And the famous 'This is where the rubber meets the road'?

All cliches. All point to the fact that everyone is a good man when things are going right. Anyone can be a star during successes. When things get tough, when we face adversity, is when we really learn what we are made of on the inside. I think EVERYONE can attest to this, as, at some point in our lives, we all have faced some adversity.

As the quote says, it's a great way to meet yourself.... not face to face, but face to guts.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #114....

"If you can't win, make the fellow ahead of you break the record."
-Anonymous-

In other words, give it your very best, and if someone does happen to best you on that given day, make 'em earn it. And after that, congratulate the hell out of them. Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap to a competitor that is just a wee bit better than you.

I once wrote of a pro golfer that shot 26 under par for 4 rounds, closed with a final round 63(par was 72), and beat the pants off of 153 other players that week. Only problem is one other player was 27 under. What the hell are you going to do? You played superb and on 51 other weeks, you are a sure winner. That week, you happen to run into a guy hotter than a branding iron. Go shake his hand.

And don't forget to celebrate yourself a bit. This is a case where you can be proud to come in second. Your turn will come. This week for some reason, it wasn't meant to be.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #113....

"Give up premature judgement of messages, before they are fully stated. Withhold your judgement until your comprehension is complete."

-Hart Davidow-

Anyone ever think they know what someone is trying to say before they complete their sentence or thought? I have. Bad boy, Timmy!

Anyone ever actually finish someone's sentence for them? Yup. Done this too. Naughty, Mr Smith!

It's actually a rude thing to do and it shows poor listening skills. Well, at least I'm cognizant that I do this poor habit occasionally and I'm working on stopping it.

I love Mr Davidow's second sentence as well. Not only listen and let the person finish their statement but also COMPREHEND what was communicated to you, before responding. What a novel thought. Thanks for the reminder, Hart!

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #112....

"Hot heads and cold hearts never solved anything."
-Reverend Billy Graham-

When was the last time you had an argument with a worker/ friend/ lover? How would you rate your stableness of mind during AND after the exchange? Did anything get solved? Did you feel better, the same or worse AFTER the argument?

Here's the thing. Arguments will happen. We are humans and we all think differently(how boring a world it would be if we were all robots). But are we being intelligent about our APPROACH to a heated discussion?

I believe Graham is suggesting that not much good happens in anger. It may be more productive to keep a cool and level head. And after.. the cold heart? The grudge? The bitterness? The resentment? Wouldn't we all be better off trying to see the others point of view, have a discussion, and come out with a better relationship after the exchange of words?

One final point..sometimes its just plain OK to 'agree to disagree'. In other words a MUTUAL RESPECT for others opinions and point of view .

-Magnus Pike-

Safe is generally good. However, every once in a while, taking a risk can also be of value, sometimes significantly.

There is an old saying..."Don't be afraid to go out on a limb.. for that's where the fruit is".
If we always played safe and never took a chance.. we would live dull, boring, uneventful lives. And we'd also discover about 1/1000 of what LIFE has to offer.

Final thought.. assuming you LIKE something, how can you experience it again, for the second time, if you never tried it the first time?

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #110, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #110....

"When a man dies, if he can pass enthusiasm along to his children, he has left them an estate of incalculable value."

-Thomas Edison-

What a great quote. Enthusiasm...Not exactly at the top of most people's lists, when you think about what was included in a deceased's will.

And I love the muscular word..incalculable. It's very appropriate, as how do you put a value on living a life of vibrancy, excitability, and being jazzed and enthused? And passing that TRAIT down to your kids being all fired up and living passionately.....could make a 'Mastercard priceless commercial' out of it.

Woodrow Wilson even said, "Without enthusiasm, there is no progress in the world". Think about it. Not much new or worthwhile does get done.. without people being enthusiastic. Not even this wonderful blog that I just composed. Hope you are as excited reading it, as I was writing it.

That's my view....... What say YOU?
