Quote #347, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #347...

"True bravery is shown by performing without witness what one might be capable of doing before the world."
-La Rochefoucauld-

It's not what you do when everyone is watching that matters. It's what takes place when your conscience is the only one with a view.

That's what seperates the men from the boys. That's what differentiates the major players from the contenders.

Quote #346, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #346...

"It takes two things to be a consultant- grey hair and hemorrhoids. The grey hair makes you look distinguished. The hemorrhoids make you look concerned."
-MAXINE-

For all you Maxine fans. Got to love her bluntness and sense of humor! Just goes to show... you never know who will be quoted at the Think Tank.

You could be next!

Quote #345, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #345...

"The biggest reward for a thing well done is to have done it."
-Voltaire-

Procrastination. We've all done it. We know we should avoid it. Ever since school years when we put off studying until the night before the final exam. Those projects we have 8 weeks to complete, then we stress out about them when 'suddenly' they are due next Thursday.

Some of us work better under the gun. Others, well, we just put it all off until the last minute, for whatever reason.

I think all humans have one thing in common. When "it" gets done, what a great feeling to have accomplished it. To check it off the list. To get it behind you. In addition, when we do a super-duper job, it feels ever more super de dupter(not a real word).

Quotes #342/343/344

A three bagger today. Since I am an avid reader, and I am re-reading 'The Books You Read' by Charles T Jones, thought I'd share 3 very good quotes about reading. As a further comment, this book is pretty cool... it has many famous people sharing what book they'd recommend you must read, and why.

Quote #342...
"A man who buys a book is not just buying a few ounces of paper, glue, and printers ink; he may be buying a whole new life."
-Emerson-

Many a good book has been the turning point in peoples lives.

Quote #343...
"There is a great deal of difference between the eager man who wants to read a book and the tired man who wants a book to read."
-G.K. Chesterton-

One wants to learn, while the other may be looking to fall asleep.

Quote #344...
"A man's reading program should be as carefully planned as his daily diet, for that too is food, without which he cannot grow mentally."
-Andrew Carnegie-

We are what we eat, read, watch, listen to, and hang out with. Choose good quality reading materials. Your brain will thank you for it.

Quote #341, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #341...

"God gave us two ends. One to sit on and one to think with. Success depends on which one you use; heads you win, tails you lose."
-Anonymous-

It's Friday. I think I'll use both of my ends to sit and think about this one over the weekend.

Funny how anytime someone flips a coin and asks me to call it, 90% of the time I go with 'heads.' I usually win about 50% of the time(why do I feel like I'm mimicing Andy Rooney with this comment?).

Use your noggin and your tush wisely. Your success may be 'resting' on it.

Quote #340, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #340...

"The future depends on many things, but mostly on you."
-Frank Tyger-

I'm not sure who Mr Tyger is, or what he did in life(will have to google him), but I've read about a dozen of his quotes. One common theme.. I have liked them all.

I think Tyger is trying to say there are tons and tons of variables in life that determine who we become where we end up, what we do, who we meet, etc etc. However thee most important variable is...US. We control much of our own outcome. We have more to say about our destiny than most or all the other variables.

So, as we've said before here at the Think Tank, figure out what you want to do, and who you want to become. Then, get to it. The sand continues to fall through the hourglass of life every second!

Quote #339, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog #339...

"I never give them hell. I just tell the truth, and they think it's hell."
-Harry S. Truman-

Ok... what movie did you think of when you read this? Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men came immmediately to my mind. 'You want the truth...you can't handle the truth.'

Some people don't want to hear the reality, the facts. Some just would like to hide under the covers, or ignore the bad news and unpleasant stuff. Maybe it will just 'go away.' I personally like to know where I stand. Confront whatever the facts are, and take them head on.

My mother used to have a great saying, which I still adhere to today. Clare Loeber Smith used to say "You can tell anybody almost anything, if done in a pleasant and respectful way." Try her approach. It's about as solid advice as you'll find out there. And then the other person KNOWS WHERE THEY STAND, and hopefully can figure out how best to proceed from there. If you don't really know where you stand, how can you go forward properly?

Quote #338, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #338...

One customer, well taken care of, could be more valuable than $10,000 worth of advertising."
-Jim Rohn-

Well stated, Mr Rohn. Sometimes, we have to think about what we are doing. How much does it cost to get a new customer? How much is a valued customer worth, one who truly believes in your product/service, and LOVES what you do?

Does it make sense to spend all your time and money trying to obtain new customers, or would we be better off catering to our existing fans? Perhaps it should be an even mix of our efforts. At minimum, some effort should be placed on and put into your loyal patrons, as they are walking billboards and testimonials of your company.

We all need new customers. But the one who gets a customer, then takes them for granted will soon be looking for even more new customers. Take care of your "raving fans." It will produce fruitful dividends.

Quote #337, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes quote Blog #337...

"There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those."
-Anonymous-

Byrd Baggett once said, "The secret of happiness---find out what you truly love to do and then, direct all your energy towards doing it." There are hundreds of quotes written on passion and pursuit of what really lights your fire. Most messages have a common thread, stating success, be it physically, financially, or emotionally, is found when you are doing something that you thoroughly enjoy.

Passion. Find it. Then follow it. You'll be pleasantly surprised on the path it takes you.

Quote #336, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote 336...

"We do not know one millionth of one percent about anything."
-Thomas Edison-

Kind of reminds me of the contradicting line (not sure if there is a name for that)...The more I know, the more I realize I don't know. What makes this an even more quality quote is the person who quoted it!

This is a good one to print off for keeping the ego in check. Any time we are thinking we are too big for our britches, a good idea to re- read Edison's comment.

Quote #335, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #335...

"Don't be a fool, go to school, and stay until you are through. 'Cause if they can make penicillin from molded bread, think what they can do with you."
-Nipsy Russell-

Bet you though this was a Dr Seuss quote. It's none other than the hilarious Mr. Russell of the famed 1970's TV game show 'Match Game.'

I don't have a lot to add to this one as it rhymes, it's succinct, and it makes a whole lot of sense. All I'll chime in with is to agree with Nipsy and suggest to certainly stay in school; the benefits FAR OUTWEIGH the detriments.

After all,it's kind of FUN to see what your potentials and possibilities are. Onward with schooling!

ps.. the TEACHERS have to LOVE this Quote, don' t they? Feel free to share it with any that you know.

Quote #334, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #334...

"We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us."
-Joseph Campbell-

I didn't take this as whatever our goals are missions are, just throw them out the window. Goals, objectives and plans are all good things to have for direction in life.

I think what Campbell is saying, is that life doesn't always go according to our plans. In fact, most of the time, it doesn't! However, that's what makes life so interesting. That's what makes it fun. Non- boring. Unpredictable.

So I take the message here as follows... Be flexible. Be willing to change. Get ready for adaptation, because you never know what's around life's curve in the road.

Quote #333, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #333...

"It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference."
-Tom Brokaw-

Reminds me of the old line that anyone can make money, but it's a challenge to save it and keep it. Similar here. Anyone can make money. The real question is...

Are you making a DIFFERENCE? In your life? In the lives of others? Make a difference this year. This weekend. Today!

Quote #332, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #332...

"If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced."
-Vincent Van Gogh-

Being one of thee most famous painters in all of history, probably not a bad guy to listen to. This quote seems to be more about FEAR than anything else. Sometimes fear is simply the risk of trying the unknown or uncomfortable. Once you dive in the water and get into action, things usually arent so 'scary.'

Jump in, test the waters. Get into action. What follows may be surprising to you, and downright pleasing.

Quote #331, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #331...

"The question isn't... what are we going to do today; the question is... what aren't we going to do today?"
-Ferris Bueller-

Come on. You know you LOVED this movie. One of the classics of all time. So many good lines in this, that you have to watch it 3-4 times to absorb them all. Movies like that rock!

Well, not sure about you but I'm going to have some serious fun(oxymoron) this weekend. Might I suggest, like Ferris Bueller, you do the same?

Quote #330, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #330...

"Happiness is a place between too much and too little."
-Finnish Proverb-

There is something to be said for moderation isn't there? Even Moderation :) Every once in a while those middle of the roaders need to just 'go nuts' or 'hog wild' if you prefer that term. Other times, MOTR's need to totally back it down and do nothing. CHILL.

Here goes Blog quote #328...

"The difference on what we do and what we are capable of doing would solve most of the worlds problems."
-Gandhi-

I had to think on that one for a minute or two. Ponder, hmm, ponder.

War and Peace. Poverty and Wealth. Crime and Safety. Hate and Love. Innovation to deal with all of life's challenges, as we evolve.

Hmm. The more I think on this quote, the more darn accurate I believe it is.

Quote #327, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #327

"While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior."
-Henry C. Link-

How do you get better?
By trying new things.
By pushing yourself.
By getting out of your comfort zone.

By failing ,TEMPORARILY. We've discussed many times that mistakes and "failures" really are the stepping stones to improvement, to increasing your talents and skills, and ultimately, more successes.

Get out there and make some mistakes on your way to success. Get out of the stands, onto the court, and into the game.

Quote #326, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog quote #326...

"If you arent fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm."
-Vince Lombardi-

Once again , gotta love those double meaning quotes! Depending on who your boss(coach) is, losing your job/position over a lack of enthusiasm may or may not actually happen. It is however, enough reason to GET SOME ENTHUSIASM.

To me, enthusiasm is like oil to a car, like peanuts to peanut butter, like Guinness on tap to an Irish pub. It helps make everything work better. If you look back thorough history, you'll be hard pressed to find many things that weren't accomplished without some good enthusiasm. As a bonus, it's more fun to be FIRED UP.

If your enthusiastic, spread it. If you aren't, get some cooking. You'll be glad you did.
