Quote #475, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #475...

"Talent is God-given: be humble.
Fame is man-given: be thankful.
Conceit is self-given: be careful."
-Tony Dungy's high school coach-

Quite a bit said here in this brief poem. It was ascribed to the teachings of Coach John Wooden who we hold the deepest respect for. When we see Wooden we immediately think CHARACTER, HONESTY, ETHICS.

When ponderig this short three sentence gem, it becomes pretty prophetic. Where does talent come from and why does one person have talent A and another person gets skills B and C?

And where does fame come from? The fans cheering and chanting and slobbering all over for some good reasons and some not so wonderful consequences.

And conceit... well where does that come from?
That for all to ponder and digest.

Great stuff from Dungy, or his coach, or from Wooden. Whomever it was, thanks for enlightening the rest of us!

Quote #474, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #474...
"The reason several dollar bills wear out so quickly is that so many are always passing the buck."
-Croft Pentz-

A little play on words from Mr Pentz.
Makes one wonder, in his sarcasm, how much truth actually lies there?

How much responsibility do people actually take on? What type of blame are they always looking to cast upon others?

This discussion could go on for hours, as it's a wonderful conversation piece. A conversation piece that could use some chatter, and then a little bit of action to address the talking point.

Quote #473, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote # 473...

"The greatest homage we can pay to the truth... is to use it."
-Emerson-

Saw this this morning. Loved it. Not much more to add.
It kind if stops you in your tracks and say quite a heap load.

Funny how we all WANT the truth, yet a good portion of us aren't willing to use it, to share it, to give it up, to forward it on though.

Funny though isn't it? Not really.

Use the truth. I'll go first. Everyone follow in suit. Perhaps we can start a valuable trend?

Quote #472, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #472...

"Ever notice that a cars windshield is so large and the rear view mirror is so small? That's because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on."
-a Layman's Ten Commandments-

Sometimes a statement is so succintly put, that there isn't much more to add to it. Thus is the case here.

Quote #471, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here Goes Blog Quote #471...
"Personality can open doors, but only character can keep them open."
-Elmer G Leterman-

The 'other' Leterman shares this gem with us. Boy it happens every day in sales doesn't it? People will buy anything from someone once. After that-- it's all earned.

Another saying says 'people will deal with people that they like, know and trust.'
After the first sale, it is then that we find out more about the product itself, AND the person who sold it.

Is it a 'one and done' sale or is it a relationship building exercise? Did we buy from a slick oil salesman who only initially seemed all too nice and friendly, or is it from a caring person of character who truly has our best interest at heart?

It is true that a personality can open doors and relationships. But without some substance behind it, it's likely to be a short term deal.

Quote #470, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #470...

"I have learned the hard way that every time I get angry, I am going to learn something new--usually about my limited vision."
-Adele Ryan McDowell-

Wow. This is one of those surprise endings at the completion of the quote. Wasn't expecting that. However, quite humbling, and how insightful.

Any of you relate with this discovery? I know I certainly can.

Much anger in the world, could be avoided, is senseless, and sometimes selfish. If we work towards understanding where one another is coming from, versus our own selfish and limited views and ideas--watch out. A whole new world opens up. And it's a good new world!

Hats off to Ms. Mc Dowell for that self discovery. It's a keeper!

Quote #469, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #469...

"Sometimes the thinking about it is harder than the doing it."
-Mama Brainard-

What a great quote that a friend of mine shared, regarding some wisdom that was passed on from his mom to himself.

The more I think of this quote the better it gets. Inertia. Moving on something. Getting started. Sometimes it can be thee most difficult thing.

We over think stuff. We analyze it from twelve different angles. We ask advice from every Tom, Dick, and Harry that we can get their attention.

When whats really needed... is just a kick in the pants to get started. So all you procrastinators out there-- the next time you are stuck overthinking.. just jump in the water and get going. You'll find that its actually much easier than being stuck up top on that high diveboard...pondering.

Quote #468, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #468...

"If you are having a challenge on a business level, do not look at how to change others, or even how to change the situation. Look at a way to change yourself."
-Lydia Danner-

Why is it that we are so good at telling others how to change. or what they need to do, to get better? Yet, it's so hard for ourselves to change anything.

There is an old saying... "If you can't change your friends, then change your friends." Sometimes that's true and needed advice. Other times, we need to stop looking around at everyone else and start the changing on our own front porch. The fact is: That's the spot where we have much more control, and significantly more impact as well.
Something to consider...

Here goes Blog Quote #467...

"What is a calorie? Calories are the little devils that get into your wardrobe at night, and sew your clothes tighter."
- Shared by friend Joy Gillis-

You have any of those little bugger devils in your closets? Yeah me too. Thought this was a humorous way to get this Monday Party started!

Enjoy your day. And while your at it, make it a heck of a good week!
Keep moving so you can fend off those pesky calories!

Quote #466, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Hello ST Think-Tankers. We were having some technical difficulties, but have gotten them resolved, so we are back.

Here goes Blog Quote #466...
"When you are aspiring to the highest place, it is honorable to reach the second, or even the third rank."
-Cicero BC 55-

Can you believe this was stated over 2000 years ago? Kind of reminds me of the quote to shoot for the sky.. as you know, the sky is the limit. If you miss, you may hit the stars. In other words, when you raise your expectations, your results almost ALWAYS follow higher up the ladder.

How about Cicero's choice of words? Second or third is HONORABLE. In today's world when so much emphasis is placed on WINNING, it's refreshing to hear that not only coming close is good, but honorable. Hey, no matter what your trying to accomplish, just sheer numbers wise- its brutally tough to be number 1 let alone all the time. Consider the Boston marathon- with tens of thousands of participants. Only one winner.

As Coach Wooden says, "You're a winner if you give it your all. If you try your hardest and give it your personal best."
Wooden and Cicero. Two pretty smart men!

Quote #465, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #465... "If profanity had an influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be played far better than it is." -Horace G Hutchinson- This for any of you raving golf fans out there. I must tend to agree that this quote is dead on... although I have never used any profanity myself. Just profound stuff. If you believe that one, I also have a round where I birdied all 18 holes. Not! It's a tough game and can test the patience of even the best, mild mannered souls. Don't forget--- even the Reverand lost his cool while having the best round of his life, in the hit movie Caddyshack. Rat farts!! That's my view...what say you?

Quote #464, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #464.. "A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that---is the beginning of a new argument." -unknown- Found this comical. Anyone agree with this? Perhaps the best strategy is to avoid an argument at any cost? I always thought argument was a 'harsh' word anyway. I prefer the word--discussion! That's my view...what say you?

Quotes #462 and 463, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quotes #462 and #463... "I can prove anything by statistics, except the truth." -George Canning, British politician- I found this humerous. The point is to be careful. Stats are good. With that stated, they can be stretched like a slingshot, twisted like a pretzel, and manipulated like a rookie frat boy. Observe with care. See if the author is pushing an angle. Pay attention. And you know what they say... the average human has one breast and one testicle. Quote #463... Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital." -Aaron Levenstein- HMMM That's my view...what say you?

Quote #461, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes blog quote #461...

"The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field, and never score."
-Bill Copeland-

Can anyone relate? The chicken running around with it's head cut off feeling?
This reminds me of the analogy of Progress and Activity. Just because you are busy doesn't mean you are productive, or actually getting anything done.

The purpose of a goal, like a goal line, is to set a mark and see if you actually 'cross the mark.' Get to the goal--- if you will.

Many people don't take the time to set goals. Those are usually the same people that are going through life, and not getting much traction. Those are the folks that are likely starring in the movies of other director's lives. In other words--- they are parts to someone else's goals and plans.

Goals are good. If you don't currently set them, perhaps it's a decent thing to consider? They just might help you get to one side or the other of that field called life, and score a few more times.

Quote #460, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here Goes Blog Quote #460...

"I'm not interested in how you got to the wrong answer."
-Jack Williams-

The other day a good friend of mine and I were chatting and he gave me that line. We both cracked up at it. The rudeness. The arrogance. Of course, it's just a kidding line. Nonetheless, a classic.

It happened to be a line that he heard many a time from his dad while growing up. We then went off into 'Memory Lane' thinking up and re-hashing classic one liners from our elders.

Each of us has heard them from our parents. We will probably be repeating those same lines on to our kids and grandkids. Heck, one time our family roasted our dad for his 70th birthday---and guess what the platfiorm was? The "Ism's" of our father.

Long live the one liner classics from our parents!

Here goes Blog Quote #459...

"A loyal friend laughs at your jokes when they are not so good, and sympathizes with your problems when they are not so bad."
-Arnold Glasgow-

That, my friends, is truer that one might think.

Key word in this quote--- LOYAL.
Re-read as needed. Share with others. Perhaps a nice little subliminal message will get passed around.

Quote #458, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #458...

"If you don't know where you are going, you might end up somewhere else."
-Toby Keith-

Driving down the road the other day, I heard this song come over the radio waves. I had to do a double take as to the meaning of the statement.

After further pondering, it was determined to be one of those tricky statements that go round and round. Can always expect something fun and unique from country music.

Silly, yes.
Makes you think, absolutely.
Some truth to it--- I believe so.

Moral of the story... it's not a bad idea to determine where you want to go, otherwise you'll surely end up somewhere else. I think??

Might lead to the question--- How does someone know where 'somewhere else' is, if they don't know where they are 'going?' HMMM...
Nice piece of writing by Mr Keith and his crew!

Quote #457, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #457...

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me.."look for the helpers." You will always find people who are helping."
-Fred Rogers-

What a way to turn a negative into a positive. You know what?... Fred's mom is correct. Kind of like there is good in every evil; you just have to look for it.

No wonder why Mr. Rogers turned out to be such a great guy and an American icon...

Quote #455, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here goes Blog Quote #455...
"Do what you do so well, that they will want to see it again, AND bring their friends."
-Walt Disney-

This was Disney's philosophy, and part of his business model for success.
Seems overly simplistic, doesn't it?
Remember--- common sense isn't always so common.

Many companies are out there doing all sorts of crazy branding and advertising and gimmicking and paying celebrities to promote their product. Some are trying to re-invent the wheel constantly. Others are trying to woo customers with the 'latest and greatest.'

To me, Disney's approach seems like a recipe for greatness. How about you?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed---lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
-Cicero, 55 BC-

Quote #451, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here's Blog Quote #451...

"Be not careless in deeds, nor confused in words, nor rambling in thought."
-Marcus Aurelius-

From this great Roman emperor and philosopher, I believe Aurelius is trying to tell us...get to the point. Be honest, be truthful, and say what you mean to say.

I am reading a world famous early 1900's book, called 'As a Man Thinketh', by James Allen. Very short book. There are no wasted words. Each comment has in depth meaning.

In keeping with Aurelius and Allen's comments:::. Buy the book. Excellent wisdom. You will learn much about positive thinking---AND---the secret to succeeding.

Quote #450, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

Here's Blog quote #450...

"Necessity is the mother of invention."
-Plato, famous Greek philosopher-

Amazing--- this from Plato, who walked the earth 2300 years before you and I.

Funny how when you have to have something(note: not WANT, but NEED), you are forced to figure out a solution or HOW to make it happen/work. We truly have so much more in the reserve tank when we need to call on it.

Someone once said we only use about 8% of our brain's capacity. I have no idea how to verify that, but I do know that WHEN NEEDED, we can do PLENTY more than what is originally thought.

Here's blog quote #449...

"They say I'm old fashioned and live in the past, but sometimes progress--- progresses to fast!"
-Dr Seuss-

Ever think the world is moving too fast?
Faxes were great when first invented, then became not good enough. Then we had to have overnight delivery... then incredibly--that was too slow. Poof.. along comes same day delivery.

Emails are mind blowing when you stop to think how they operate. We can talk across the planet... for free... almost instantaneously. Somehow the message goes from our keyboard, over cyber space, and appears immediately in someone's inbox 10,000 miles away.

All of the sudden---emails aren't quick enough. If people don't get back to you with in 5-10 minutes, they are 'slacking.' Now texting requires prompto attention, and response.

As the wise man Gandhi once said... "There is more to life than increasing it's speed."

Perhaps we should PAUSE--- and ponder that one--- a bit more?
HMMM
