Quote #109, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #109....

"Cheap is expensive in the long run."
-Gretchen Rubin-

Here, here Gretchen. Sometimes when we are SO DRIVEN to find a steal, a bargain a deal.. do we forget about the quality of the purchase? Then, soon after, when the product goes bad/ wears out/ breaks down, we are sent back to re-purchase, and all of the sudden, CHEAP becomes EXPENSIVE.

There is an old adage I once heard that rings true 1000% for me. It goes like this...

"Price. Quality. Service. Pick any 2 of those 3 that you like." You will never, ever, be able to get the best of all three. Something will have to give. Well done with your quote, Ms. Rubin.

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #108, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #108....

"The darn trouble with cleaning the house is, it gets dirty the next day anyway, so skip a week if you have to. The children are the most important thing."

- Barbara Bush-

There! All you Clean Freaks.. TAKE THAT!

I believe Barbara's message is::: spend more time with your loved ones and less time worrying about how clean the windows are and the mild dirt under the ottoman.

If you have children, spend more time with them. They will be gone soon enough. Better yet, have them help you clean :)

If no children, spend more time with your family, loved ones, best friends. The dust will wait.. I promise!

Quote #107, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #107....

"A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it is committing another mistake."
- Confucius-

This Confucius must have been a very wise man. I've heard the funny ones from him like "Man who chase car, get exausted", and "Man who fart in church, sit in own pew", but he also has some serious ones that are healthy for the mind.

Mistakes. They are actually a GOOD thing. As long as we correct them, and we learn from them. No sense in making the same continual mistake over and over and over again. I view mistakes as life lessons or teaching guides in disguise.

Mistakes....we all make them. We are human. Make 'em, deal with 'em, don't fret over 'em and fix 'em. Move on. Over and out.......

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #106, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #106....

"Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don't. They sit in front of the telly and treat life as if it goes on forever."

- Philip Adams-

Ok, who DOESN'T Love this quote?

Have you ever heard people say.. "Aahh I'll get to that tomorrow", or "Whats the rush" or Let's get together sometime"?

Pretty soon, tomorrow comes and you are busy doing something else life threw at you, or you aren't feeling so great or you get bogged down with work. A whole slew of others "things " can get in the way of doing whatever you were talking about doing, but put off for another day.

I read something this past week about the Annual fishing trip that some guy used to do with his buddies. He was in his late 50's and decided to pass saying he was "busy" but not to worry as ..he has another '20 years' to do the fishing trip. Think about this.. its an ANNUAL trip.. 1 time a year.. so in reality he only has 20 more times, not a "lifetime of 20 -30 more years", to do the trip.

Such is life and I believe Adams is so on the mark here.. we all treat life like we'll be here forever. NOT TRUE ! We get older, we get sick, we have a job transfer lose, accidents happen, we have triplets.. LIFE HAPPENS.. So whatever you want to do.. GET TO IT. Who knows when or how many times the chance to do "whatever" will come up again?

That's my view....... What say YOU?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #105....

"I was born in 1962. True. And the room next to me was 1963."

- Joan Rivers, actress, in her 70's-

Since I'm watching Joan on Donald Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice', I thought I'd give her a play. This made me chuckle.

Ms. Rivers statement reminds us of two things. First, always finish reading the complete and entire thought/sentences. Second, things may be true, and at the same time, have several different meanings. One of the meanings may not be exactly what you were thinking.

Quote #104, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #104....

"No matter who you are, you only get a little slice of the world. Have you ever seen a hearse followed by a U-Haul?"

-Billy Graham-

I think what Graham is trying to say here is don't get too big for your britches. It really doesn't matter who we are in life or what we do.. in the end, we cannot take any of it with us. So, don't get too hung up on the material stuff.

Now, what you CAN DO is leave behind good principles, fundamentals and qualities for the youth to try to emulate and learn from. To leave the world a better place than what it was on your arrival, is always a worthy accomplishment.

Quote #103, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #103....

"Congress is continually appointing fact- finding committees, when what we really need are some fact-facing committees."

-Roger Allen-

EWWW Politics! Touchy, touchy, sensitive territory. Sometimes I wonder why it's so controversial. Perhaps people don't like to be called out on things.. such as this quote says?

In general, I usually distance myself from political stuff. A rare exception for Mr Allen.. since he said it SO WELL.

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #102, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #102....

"Promises should not be given lightly unless you want them received lightly."

-Denis Waitley-

If someone tells you they will meet you out tonight and don't show, or if they tell you they'll call you tonight, and don't call, how do you feel? When people tell you they will do something and do not follow up on it, what do you think? Does it bother you, or, are you indifferent?

Personally, it is one of my pet peeves. If you say you'll do something.. then I expect you to be true to your word. Not an excuse, not a reason why not, not something came up. Yada, yada, yada. Just do as you say you would do. Simple. Or... next time, just say no, I can't, or, sorry, its not for me.

Funny how many paths lead back to the old famous GOLDEN RULE...... Do unto others. When you promise something, do you deliver none, some, most or all the time?

That's my view....... What say YOU?

Quote #101, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #101....

"The only thing in life you have 100% control of is your effort and your word."
-Neil Carlson-

I thought we'd stay with the "100 theme" for one more post. The more I read this quote, the more I liked it. I'm sure if pressed I could come up with a few other things I totally control;nonetheless these two made me THINK.

My EFFORT... hmmm... Yes I do have 100% control over that. And a powerful control that is because effort is a major factor in success, achievement and enjoyment in life. Every day upon awakening I am in total control of the effort I put into anything and everything that the upcoming day holds.

My WORD....... another one where I totally DECIDE if I keep my word or not. I wish the masses would take this one more serious.

Speaking of my word.....I just added to my resume:
Best quality of Tim Smith: Reliable and trustworthy. My handshake means everything (IE: MY WORD is GOLD).

How many others do you know that can say this???

Quote #100, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #100....

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
-Wayne Gretzky-

Another DUHH quote right? Well of course you won't make any shot that you dont take. I believe the great one is telling us all to TAKE SOME SHOTS, and least take a few or at the very least.. one. TRY SOMETHING. Go out on a limb( that's where the fruit usualy is anyway!)

Well today marks the 100th post of the Smile-Therapy Think Tank. May not sound like much to you, but I'm pretty fired up.

We have added our 5th follower. The comments are starting to trickle in. The website is getting more and more hits daily. And, the best part is.. I am having an absolute riot doing this every day. Sometimes I even feel like posting on a Sunday( currently Mon-Sat now).

When I started this blog, my friend Jennifer told me it's a commitment. Just make sure you have something people will want to read, keep it fun and interesting, and stick to the posting.

I really didn't know what direction it would take but after 100 posts, I feel we have something good here. First, People like quotes. Second,I add a few comments. Reardless of my good/ bad/ silly/ intelligent statements, it opens the readers mind to yet another angle rather than rewading a bare quote. Third, and best of all is each of us, in theory, could interpret a quote differently. So we ENCOURAGE people to add their thoughts. From the minds of people.... come IDEAS that we can all benefit from. Thus it's a BIG GIANT Think -Tank.
Share comments. Become a follower. Give your ideas and thoughts. Learn from others minds.

Onward to the next 100 posts.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #99....

"All the great speakers were bad speakers at first."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-

I cannot wait for the comments on this one. We have many public speakers in the audience.

Funny how there is an old wives tale that when asked their biggest fears, people actually list public speaking ahead of death! I liked Emerson's quote because there are some people that think things "just happen". I am of the belief that we humans LEARN through EXPERIENCE. Some people may be a tad more gifted or 'natural' than others, but experience still plays a huge part. No one comes out of the womb as an awesome speaker. This applies to the Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan's and the Brett Favre's of the world as well. Some say they have all natural raw talent. They just 'got it'. I say they may have more than you or I.. but they still put in a BAZILLION countless hours to become masters at their respective crafts.

Attention Public and Professional Speakers.. nows your chance to be heard.......

Quote #98, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #98....

"Don't forget to take life one day at a time, because if you miss a day or two... its called a coma."

-Tom Zegan-

Anyone in a 'hurry' in life? Can't wait for this week to be over? Wishig that vacation in April was here; now? Summer can't get here soon enough for you?

Well, pretty soon all of these will be here and have passed us. Zegar is making a joke of the literal translation of missing a day or two meaning if you really do miss it, you've either passed on to the next life, or you are in a coma.

Perhaps he leaves a subtle, yet wise message to SLOW DOWN. Enjoy life one day at a time. Live in the moment. Today's moment. Whatever you are "waiting for" will come and it will be gone just as fast. In the meantime, don't miss out on what TODAY has in store for you. Remember Ferris Buhler's famous line.. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Quote #97, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #97....

"Almost all unhappiness in life comes from the tendency to blame someone else."

-Brian Tracy-

Blame. What a terrible word in the English language. Here are 7 reasons why:

It's a useless word.
It's silly.
It's wasteful.
It's unproductive.
It's spiteful.
It's weak.
It deals with the past. You can't change the past. It's in the books. So what good does it do to point and find blame?

Anyone know anything GOOD that comes from Blaming? I'm sure I missed another 10-20 things BAD about Blaming.

Here goes blog quotes #96....

"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools."
-Ernest Hemingway-

Is this a Freudien.... err..... Hemingway slip? Did Ernest mean to say spend time with his friends? Or was he making a joke? What do you think?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #95....

"Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died."
-Annette Moore Peksa-

Lets have some FUN with this one. This is a quote that can be interpreted all over the board.
My first 2 thoughts were.... "Is the doctor not very caring?" . I also thought "perhaps this doctor doesn't pay attention to detail ?"

THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO YOUR MIND AFTER READING THIS QUOTE WAS.........?

Quote #94, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #94....

"Spend time with those you love. One of these days you will either say "I wish I had", or 'I'm glad I did."

-Zig Ziglar-

Boy, does this pack alot into 2 short sentences. Bullseye, Mr Ziglar

Can anyone disagree? Did this trigger off lightbulbs in anyone's head? The key word in the quote is T I M E. We all have the same amount of it each day. We all have 24 hours and we all have 1440 minutes. HOW we choose to use those minutes and hours is up to us.

Personally, I am having dinner with my father this weekend. We'll celebrate his 4199th week on this planet. I'm also planning on as many golf rounds with my dad as we can do, this coming season.

Ziglar gently(or boldly)reminds us that we have the choice to start saying "I'm glad I did".

Curious as to YOUR FEEDBACK on this topic.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #93....

"Do the right thing. You will please some, and astonish the rest."
-Croft Pentz-

Shouldn't this quote be the other way around? Sad isn't it?

In a world where many are not doing the right thing, here is a case where what should be ordinary(doing the right thing), is Extraordinary. I guess the good news is its pretty easy to stand out by doing what your supposed to do :)

Quotes #91 and 92, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?
Here goes blog quotes #91 and 92....

"I was brought up to believe the only thing worth doing was to add to the sum of the acccurate information in the world."
-Margaret Mead-
"Most truths are so naked that people feel sorry for them and cover them up, at least a little bit. "
-Edward R Murrow-

This is a part 2 that started with Mead's quote, which lead me to talking about telling the truth in business, which lead me to Murrow's quote.

My whole point is I wish people would just say what they mean; IN A POLITE and COURTEOUS MANNER. If your not interested in doing business because of need/ want of my product with me, thats fine, just say so. It' ll save lots of wasted time in the sales process for the both of us over the next 6 months. If you can't deal with me because your cousin is in the business, no problemo. It wont hurt my feelings.

If your just not interested for whatever reason, just call or voicemail or snail mail or email. With technology, there are plenty of easy ways to communicate. The 'ignore and hope I go away' strategy isn't professional. I'm a persistent one, but not a 'bugger'. I will follow up properly until it is no longer warranted. Studies show most sales take place AFTER 6-8 contacts, thus the reason for the persistence. Most salespeople quit after only 3 or even 2. Would you believe many give up after only 1 contact?

Rememer this:: When you hear someone say "that guy is a pain in the ____", its likely the person calling him a pain has not communicated properly, and with truth and kindness, to the 'pain'. He may just be following up for the 6 or 8th time? HMMM

Quote #91, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #91....

"I was brought up to believe the only thing worth doing was to add to the sum of the acccurate information in the world."

-Margaret Mead-

WOW! Quite profound from Ms Mead.
Is it just me or is anyone else sick of all the BS in the world? Think about this: How would business be different if people spoke the truth( and what's really on their mind)? More here in a minute. How about POLITICS.. can you IMAGINE them all telling the truth and sharing accurate information? And life in general..When people told you something you could actually believe it to be true and accurate. IE... you could TRUST THEM. How different the world would be( in a good way).

The previous paragraph is DESERVED of pondering. It's worth a re- read. Stop back for part 2 tomorrow as I'll pick up the business part. Telling the truth to and getting it from your customers is worthy of its own blog.

Anyone care to comment on Margaret Mead's quote?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #90....

"When things don't add up, it's time to subtract."

-Douglas Martin, founder, SmileVino.com-

Ahh here we go again. Irony. Play on words. Tension of opposites. Paradoxical Statements.

I found this little statement quite brilliant. Brief, yet is says so much.

In our world of do more, get more, be more, perhaps we are overdoing it? It may be time to simplify a bit. Contract a little. Concentrate on what's most important. Focus with laser vision.

Sometimes LESS really is MORE.

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #89....

"People need us. They depend on us. We're doing something important here. And knowing that gives me the energy to carry the sack, lead the pack, and keep coming back."

-Santa Claus-

Santa Claus in March? Ho- ho- hof Course!!

Whether you are Santa Claus, Tinker Bell, The Salvation Army or John Doe, never forget that people, NEED HELP, all the time, in many different ways. A friend of mine is trying to get a beautiful $25 stuffed aminal in the hands of every sick child in a California Children's hospital. Will she be able to get one to every kid? Who knows. But to EACH kid that gets one, its a sign of hope, of love, of someone that cares about them.

Take a look around. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make the world of difference to another human being. Is there anyone who could use your help today?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #88....

"There are two things to aim at in life; first, to get what you want, and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind has achieved the second."

-Logan Pearsall Smith-

First things first. No relation between Logan and I :) .

We could analyze the statement "to get what you want". Do we really even know WHAT IT IS that we want? That's another discussion. Let's assume we do.

I think what LP Smith is getting at here are the lucky few who appreciate what they have EARNED and are smart enough to enjoy it. So many of us work like dogs to finally achieve some goal that we've been at for some time. Once it's accomplished, do we really enjoy it?

Or...do we now say it wasn't enough and go back for more? Or.. do we realize all we were working towards wasn't that great after all, and not even enjoyable? Or...are we just too busy getting to the top of that proverbial mountain, and not 'enjoying the climb'?

When all is finally in the books, is there any sense in "getting what you want", if you CAN'T ENJOY IT?

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #87....

"A man's reading program should be as carefully planned as his daily diet, for that too is food, without which he cannot grow mentally."

-Andrew Carnegie-

Reading. Is there anything more important for the mind? Great for babies, great for kids, great for the elderly to keep their mind sharp. Great for all the ages.

Our frequently quoted friend, Jim Rohn once said that "you'll be the same person in 5 years from now as you are today, except for two things.. the people you meet and the books you read".

I'm so passionate about reading that I wrote an article about it on Self Growth .com( 7 great Benefits of Reading).

Quote #86, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #86....

"Optimism is the one quality more associated with success and happiness than any other."

-Brian Tracy-

That, my friends, is one of the reasons we started Smile-Therapy.com. My motto: Work Hard, Have Fun, Help Others, Make People Smile. We deliver a daily dose of..... Optimism.

So.. we see a successful and gleeful person. Tracy is saying there is a high probability that person is very optimistic. Anyone want to disagree with Mr. Tracy and offer another quality that is most associated with success and happiness?

Quote #85, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quotes #85....

"People who bend over backward to please everyone soon weaken their spine."

-Anonymous-

Another Double Meaning quote . Love these! Do you know any of these people that try to keep everyone happy? They have a tough time with that pesky little 2 letter word (NO).

Now.... does the quote really mean, by helping others, your back and spine really weakens?Perhaps is it just a literal weakness and lack of ability to say NO to people, with the desire to keep them all happy? I suppose there are worse things in the world. Nonetheless, the point is, you can't keep everyone happy, all the time. Pick and choose your spots.

That's my view....... What say YOU?

ps.. why does the word two have 3 letters?
