This CHOICE seems like a no brainer...

Blog quote #837...

"Everyday brings a choice: to practice stress or peace." -Joan Borysenko-
When put so succinctly, why the heck would anyone choose stress?
Fantabulous, thought provoking, and, much needed reminder. Thank you Ms. Borysenko.

Excellent Market Research Tip...

Blog quote #836...

"Do your own market research; ask your last ten customers exactly why they bought from you." -Brian Tracy-
Practical. Inexpensive. Effective. Could also be done rather expeditiously. Good idea here, Mr. Tracy!

Is life...a Grindstone?

Blog quote #835...

"Life is a grindstone. But whether it grinds us down or polishes us up...depends on us." -Thomas Holdcraft-
Just another excellent statement, serving as a constant reminder of just how important...our ATTITUDE is.

on...Opinions and Taking Advice

Blog quote #834...

"No one wants advice-only corroboration." -John Steinbeck, novelist-
As a technicality, we had to visit ol' Webster's to get the correct definition for corroborate. Confirmation. Support. Agreement.
Doesn't it seem when people ask for 'advice,' they really just want you to see their point or agree with them? And if/when you don't, they'll likely move on down the road, searching for someone else--who will agree with them.
Speaking of agreeing--do you agree with this?

Dr Seuss / Smile-Therapy Mix

Blog quote #833...

"Try as I can, think as I might, the hat is too small, the helmet is too tight. My head has grown large, a right fat cranium, from thinking  about Smiles, I've grown a Smile Brainium."  -Sir Dean Brainard-
An ode to Smile-Therapy. Attempting to sound a bit 'Seuss-ish,' Mr. Brainard compiles a nice selection of words honoring the Grand Poobah of Smiles.
I'm pleased not only to read it, but also to post it as part of the Smile-Therapy Think Tank chronicles. Thank you Dean!

On getting things done--True or False?

Blog quote #832...

"If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done."  -Unknown-
Pretty comical, at first blush. Seems to have some element of truth though, when you apply some thought, doesn't it?

How do you feel-- when people are LATE?

Blog quote #831...

"I have noticed that the people who are late are often so much jollier than the people who have to wait for them." -E.V. Lucas-
What's wrong with this picture? I agree somewhat with this statement, however some people just live a very unorganized, stressed life and unfortunately, are running around harder than necessary.
For the people who have to wait, it's a disappointment. It's also not very polite to make them wait. In a sense, it's a disrespect for other's time.
Perhaps this quote lays the foundation for a courtesy check for all of us, but especially the tardy.  Let's try to get there on time, folks.
After all, how do you feel, when you have to wait on another? Yeah, me too!

Why GOOD IDEAS don't take off, more quickly...

Blog quote #830...

"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." -Howard Aiken-
At first blush you read this and say..."That's crazy. A great idea;people will be flocking all over it." Sounds like it makes sense, but actually  there is so much noise out there and so many 'too good to be true' promises and claims, that it's extremely hard to get someone's attention.
And even if you do...you need to come back over and over and over, until it catches on. Then and only then, hopefully those people start shouting from the rooftops-bloviating and confabulating how good your idea truly is.
Gone are the days of the instant gratification hit, and the overnight success. Yeah they exist, but likely 1 in a million.
Get a good idea. Then keep hammering away, letting people know about it. Eventually the fire might even catch.

Singing with Pigs.... be careful

Blog quote #829...

"You should never try to teach a pig to sing. It  wastes your time, and it annoys the pig." -Robert Heinlein-
Watch out for 'forcing things' in life. They rarely work out. Use common sense. And listen to the gut.
And every once in awhile, read a really silly, funny quote, like this one.

Decisions made when ANGRY? Here's what happens...

Blog quote #828...

"Out of control emotions can make smart people stupid." -Byron Nelson-
An astute comment from Lord Byron, one of the most respected and nicest gentlemen to walk the earth. Also one of professional golf's all time greatest.
Most decisions made out of anger or frustration become the best decisions you'll ever regret. Profound advice, not only for the golf greens, but also, life's course as well.

When's the last time you read an Old Book?

Blog quote #827...

"The worst thing about new books is that they keep us from reading the old ones." -Coach John Wooden.
Nothing against new books here. This is purely more of a statement that there is a plethora of wonderful writing and wisdom in the older books. For this conversation let's define older books as 'pre 1970.'
The world is always evolving and changing, mostly for the better, although sometimes for the worse. Yet,most of what's written these days has already been discovered back when, and just has a different twist, or some new and improved added wordage.
When is the last time you've picked up a good book, written more than 40 years ago? Classic authors such as Earl Nightingale, Dale Carnegie, John Allen, Zig Ziglar, Og Mandino, Norman Vincent Peale, and Napoleon Hill, to name a few.
You'd be amazed what was penned out of minds, even as far back as Socrates, Cicero and Aristotle's time. As an example, Cicero, born in 106 B.C. had this to say over 2100 years ago, about gratitude and jealousy "I never admire another's fortunes so much, that I become dissatisfied with my own."
So if you haven't done so lately, find yourself a nice classic, and watch yourself become fascinated with what is actually written on those pages. And don't forget about good 'ol Coach Wooden, who has a few masterpieces of his own.

Interesting thoughts... on SMILES

Blog quote #826...

"Everything happens for a reason; live it, love it,learn from it! Make your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile. -Annamaria Purcell-
I believe there is some subliminal message here about  keeping a positive attitude and not underestimating the value, and power--of a smile. We concur.

A Bowling thought for today...

Blog quote #825...

"One of the advantages bowling has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball." -Don Carter, pro bowler-
Some humor for today. I love the sarcasm, as it's the extreme exaggeration that makes this comical. Like anyone has ever lost any bowling balls.

War, Peace, and other successful ways to start the New Year...

Blog quote #824...

"Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man." - Ben Franklin-
Did Franklin have any bad quotes or thoughts?
This is excellent food for thought as we drive to work in the new year. Tackle or tame our vices. Be nice to our neighbors, friends, and anyone we come in contact with.
Wow--what a concept. Let's all give those a whirl...
