Quote #114, My Thoughts and YOUR thoughts

I love Quotes. I love them because they make me think. What does the quoter mean? Why did he/she write this? Is there a message to get through to the reader/the world? What did YOU initially think when you read it?

Here goes blog quote #114....

"If you can't win, make the fellow ahead of you break the record."
-Anonymous-

In other words, give it your very best, and if someone does happen to best you on that given day, make 'em earn it. And after that, congratulate the hell out of them. Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap to a competitor that is just a wee bit better than you.

I once wrote of a pro golfer that shot 26 under par for 4 rounds, closed with a final round 63(par was 72), and beat the pants off of 153 other players that week. Only problem is one other player was 27 under. What the hell are you going to do? You played superb and on 51 other weeks, you are a sure winner. That week, you happen to run into a guy hotter than a branding iron. Go shake his hand.

And don't forget to celebrate yourself a bit. This is a case where you can be proud to come in second. Your turn will come. This week for some reason, it wasn't meant to be.

That's my view....... What say YOU?

I love that quote! Make 'em work for it!!! As long as you do your best, that is what matters. I tell that to my kids all the time!

Margie.. you have some very fortunate kids. That is great parenting, telling them to give it their all and they are winners, regardless of the scoreboard at the end.

Absolutely a GREAT quote. All we can do is OUR personal best...and if we push someone else to obtain THEIR personal best, then we have done our job!! This was taught to me by my parents and I have passed this on to my son.

I like this quote too. I use too play in sports. In racquet ball I ended up playing some younger college kids. I tried so hard but I didn't win... but they had to earn the win. I tell this to all college kids, my niece & nephews. If you can't win make the others earn the win. No freebies here!

Interesting quote Tim! Personally, I'm so unattached to winning anything so my mind may not go to the same place as others. That being said, I ADORE being a cheerleader for anyone who sets their mind out to accomplish anything, even if it's winning. There's something about watching the human spirit reach for their "more" that fills me up inside, so much so that their win is mine as well. :) Perhaps that's why I chose the profession that I'm in? What say you? ;-) Thanks for sharing!

With love,
Alicia

It's not the Gold Medals you win, they end up in a drawer. It's the Gold Medal moments you have in doing the best you can.

It's not the Gold Medal's you win that are important (they sit in a drawer). It's the Gold Medal Moments you have and knowing you did the best you could.
