What does this quote mean?...

Blog quote #1047...
"There is more credit in being abused by fools, than being praised by rogues." -F.E.Smith-
Anyone want to take a shot at what the quotist meant here?

I myself would rather suffer a fool making fun of me, than to have praise heaped upon me by someone who has no honor or integrity. A fool lacks understanding in some things, and when they denigrate others that are different from themselves they are really only hurting themselves, and I can still stay above the frey. This is completely in contrast to a rogue heaping praise upon me. I consider it a compliment that some people do not like me or my actions, because if they did approve of me yet lack honor or integrity themselves, then what would that REALLY say about me?
