Here's Blog Quote #596...
"Be a leader Shaq, not a follower. Since people already have to look up to you, give them a good reason to do so."
-Shaquille O'Neal's father-
Great play on words from Shaq's dad. And it is true. At 7 foot plus, people did have to look up to Shaq, at least physically. However the advice his dad gave him was tremendous.
You don't have to look very far or hard to find successful athletes and celebrities who are not 'star' role models. Mr O'Neal made it crystal clear what his expectations were of his son. And funny isn't it--how when you give expectations of people--they generally live up to them?
'In Shaq's case- he knew what his father's expectations were of him and if he didn't live up to them- he could not only feel his dad's disappointment, but additionally, his own.
Dad's expectations were much grander than just be the best player. Do your best, become a leader, and be a role model that others could look up to- physically and actions wise.
Good job Shaq, and Mr. Shaq
